I have been allocated a learner with additional learning needs.....Next steps?
Initally all new starts who have completed a WEST assessment will have their assessment analysed by an Essential Skills Specialist to see if there is any cause for concern or any learning difficulties picked up by WEST during assessment.  To view the results of this go to the WEST Teams Channel and choose 'files' from the tabs at the top.

Shortly after this learners who have declared additonal learning needs or a disabilty will be allocated to an Essential Skills Specialist Trainer Coach.   The ESS  TC will contact the learner and complete a Learner Profile with them.

This includes preferences for communication and learning styles, more detail about their disabilty and how it affects their learning, any accessabilty needs or barriers that the learner has.  They also indicate if the learner has a statement that evidences their disability, what support may be required or previous access arrangements they have had.

These are completed for all ALN learners who have declared a disabilty since May 22 and uploaded along with any statement provided to the ALS Tab on Smart Assessor.

If the learner has Essential Skills to complete they will continue to work with their Essential Skills Specialist to acheive this.  If there are no Essential Skills to complete the ESS will provide contact details and make the learner aware that they can contact them if they require any further support.
