The coronavirus crisis has pushed the Regional Administration of Western Greece to develop new speeds to leapfrog the obstacles and to meet the needs that have been arised, to find new channels of communication and ways of providing direct information to those who need them the most.

Coronavirus Pandemic

The provision of protection and support services to vulnerable groups of people and especially older people living independently is a priority of particular value for the Regional Administartion of Western Greece.

Support & Protection to Older People

"Click for life" is an inovative service aimed at creating a centralised support service for people in need of social welfare and support. The service is provided by the General Directorate of Public Health and Social Care of the Regional Administration of Western Greece.

Objective

"Click for life"

The Click for life service offers 24-hour telephone support and monitoring to older people who live alone or are chronically ill.Trough a special device (panic button, fall detector, geolocation) personalised attention is offered, which not only improves safety conditions, but also reduces the feeling of loneliness and fear in daily life. The call management centre is staffed by properly trained personnel, who have direct access to each elerly person's records.The service is offered to individuals:

  • living alone and/or far from health and care facilities and
  • chronically ill people (depression, mobility problems, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, heart problems, respiratory problems etc.)

Methodology

A call management centre with properly trained staff which has direct access to each beneficiary's file and consists of social workers, psychologists and responds immediately to any need.Even if the beneficiary is unable to respond, the 24-hour service immediately sends help (a neighbour, a family member, an ambulance, the emergency services, the fire brigade).

The service to the elderly includes:

The monitoring and paging of the beneficiaries through special devices (NEMO & NOVO).

The operation of a 24-hour monitoring and call support center.

  • A 24-hour monitoring service - The staff of the 24-hour telephone service responds immediately by phone to the emergency notification they receive from the paging devices.
  • The website of the telecare service - It includes educational material in order for the service to be more accessible to the elderly people and their caregivers (pdf with a realistic scenario, instruction on using the NEMO & NOVO equipment).
  • A panic Button - Seniors can call for help at the touch of a button when they need help or feel the need to communicate.
  • A Detection of fall service - Automatic fall detection of the elderly is provided.
  • A Locating a senior service - Elderly people with dementia problems who are removed from their homes due to memory loss can be found on the map.

"Society of Western Greece" online platform is the evolution of the "We Stay in Western Greece" platform, which was created during the 1st wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and provided alternative ways of entertainment and education and was focused on the empowerment of vulnerable group of people .The "We Stay in Western Greece" platform was recognised as a good practice by the European Commision, during the 1st wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Society of Western Greece" is an original portal where the interested parties will be able to find out about the services, actions and benefits related to social cohesion and health, while offering open communication, through a telephone line for information, guidance and support to those in need.Browsing the online platform, all the necessary information are easily accessible in five categories:

  • Taking care of our health
  • Supporting our society
  • Learning about the structures and institutions
  • Contacting experts
  • Contacting the institutions and services of Region of Western Greece.

The online platform gives access to the Institutions, the Care Units for the Elderly and Legal Entities operating in Western GreeceThe data provided are distinguished in different categories in order to be facilitated the connection with them and to be promoted the direct information about National and European initiatives and the Stretegy of the Regional Administration of Western Greece.

The online platform is consisted of:

A search engine, where the European, National and Regional policies & programs of Health & Social Care Organizations can be found.
