History
The history of North Carolina covers the developments within the territory of the US state of North Carolina from prehistory to the present. It begins with the prehistoric settlement of the region by Native Americans, as evidenced by artifacts and excavations. Europeans first entered the world in 152
, the particular history begins with the colonization of the region by British settlers around 1580. the primary colony was founded on the island of Roanoke. North Carolina is one among the original Thirteen Colonies and was named after King Charles I (Latin: Carolus) of England. The province of Carolina existed until 1729, which later split into two parts, which today form the states of North and South Carolina. After the Declaration of Independence and therefore the province's secession from the British Crown, North Carolina became the 12th state within the Union. During the war , North Carolina, as a standard slaveowning state, sided with the Confederacy on May 20, 1861, and after rejoining the Union on July
, 1868, maintained segregation well into the 20th century. In 1903, the Wright brothers made their first successful flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Until the start of the 21st century, the image of the agricultural state changed thanks to various political measures towards an aspiring and economically successful part of the United States.
