We generated electricity and learned how a dynamo works in the electrical energy workshop.

Optical illusions

We had fun playing and discovering how our brains interpret images in the optical illusion modules.

In "Communicating Science", we had a very interesting conversation with a scientist who wrote a book for children: Gabriel Leon.

A little preview of the science fair. Back at school we did more research and developed our own projects with everything we learned, you won't believe what we were able to do!

In each part of the museum we participated in a workshop and we knew that we should do a research or a project on the topic and share it after the trip.

The development of scientific thinking, the communication of our own findings, and teamwork have been present at every moment both during the visit and throughout the project. This newspaper was produced by the teachers and students of the 6th grade.

We came up with and prepared the trip to the science museum as a team, as the culmination of our work this term in which, as you know, we mainly looked at these topics:

  • The solar system and planet Earth
  • Energy
  • Light and images

What did we expect from the trip?

Space and our world

From space to the third planet: The balance of life

Life as we know it needs very specific conditions to exist. The distance from the Earth to the sun is perfect for temperatures to be adequate, but that is not enough, in addition, the atmosphere and magnetic fields of our planet protect us from radiation and objects that could collide with us, all this is part of a very delicate balance.

In the Planet SOS workshop, we were able to work with a closed, self-sufficient model world that represents the delicate balance that makes life on Earth possible. We did experiments and discovered some of the challenges we will have to overcome in the coming decades: acidification of the oceans, rising sea levels, global warming. We also designed a prototype wind turbine - it was amazing!

Antes de pasar al taller sobre el equilibrio en el planeta Tierra, fuimos a la sesión del planetario sobre la formación del sistema solar. Al final de la misma, nos quedamos más para conversar con el monitor y hacerle preguntas. ¡Fue de verdad muy interesante! Además las dos sesiones se complementaban muy bien.

Energy: pure transformation

There are several types of energy. We humans transform some types of energy into others so that we can use them. We learned how to make electrical circuits with photovoltaic plates!

Light and space - An illusion

Mirrors, lights, and perspectives

Mirrors, lights, holograms, kaleidoscopes, and perspectives. We walked on the ceiling, we shrank our classmates, we experienced headlessness, and much, much more. They explained to us that our eyes often see things that our brain cannot process and interprets them in the best way it can. This is how "trompe l'oeil" and optical illusions arise.

It is amazing what we discovered in this section of the museum about our brain and the way we perceive things. It is true that things are not always as they may seem. After our trip, we started to do some research. We decided to share this article that we found very interesting. Click here to read the article. And here's a video that really amazed us. Communicating science

Interviewing a fun scientist

We met with a great scientist: Gabriel Leon, who is a biochemist and wrote a very funny and interesting book called: What are boogers? And other strange questions that I sometimes ask.With him we discovered that children are scientists by nature, because the basis of science are questions and observation. We learned a lot, we talked about the scientific method, we asked him questions such as "What is DNA?" or "Why do our fingers wrinkle in the bathtub?". Some of them he was able to answer, others we answered together, and others we left for further research. It was a motivating experience and we realized how important it is to know how to communicate what we do.

"Kids are always the ones who ask the best scientific questions".

Already inspired, we researched and divided into teams to develop our own projects and got down to work to present them at our science fair. These are some of the prototypes we are developing.
