-Die altpersische Residenzstadt Persepolis war eine der Hauptstädte des antiken Perserreichs unter den Achämeniden
-Wurde 520 v. Chr. von Dareios I. im Süden Irans in der Region Persis gegründe
-gehört heute zur Stadt Schiras
-„Persepolis“ stammt aus dem Griechischen, bedeutet „Stadt der Perser“
-Name bezieht sich auf Dschamschid, einen persischen König aus mythologischer Vorzeit, von dessen fliegendem Thron abgestürzte Überreste den Ort gebildet haben sollen

-Es wurde damals eine 15 ha große Terasse angelegt
-Über 14 Gebäude sind auf der Plattform unter Darius I und seinen Nachfolgern, u. a. Xerxes, Artaxerxes I. und Artaxerxes II. errichtet worden
-Weitere Paläste wurden unmittelbar am Fuß der Terrasse ausgegraben
-Palaststadt wurde 330 v. Chr. durch Alexander den Großen zerstört, aber (teils wiederaufgebaute) Reste können auch heute noch besichtigt werden
-Da bei Zerstörung die Bewässerungsanlagen ebenfalls vernichtet worden waren, wurden die Gebäude weitgehend vom Wüstensand bedeckt und dadurch konserviert

-Der Naqsh-e Jahan Platz liegt im historischen Zentrum der iranischen Stadt Isfahan
-Mit fast neun Hektar Fläche gehört er zu den größten Plätzen der Welt
-Stellt ein wichtiges Zeugnis des gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Lebens Persiens im safawidischen Zeitalter dar, wurde 1979 als bedeutende historische Stätte in die Liste des UNESCO-Weltkulturerbes aufgenommen
2. Naqsh-e Jahan
-Abbas I. ließ den Platz zwischen 1590 und 1595 unter dem ursprünglichen Namen Naqsh-e Jahan („Abbild der Welt“) südwestlich des damaligen Stadtzentrums anlegen
-Später wurde er auch „Königsplatz“ (Meidān-e Schāh) genannt, dementsprechend nach der Islamischen Revolution zu Ehren des Ajatollahs Chomeini „Imamplatz“ oder „Platz des Imams“
-Platz bildet ein längliches Rechteck von 560 Metern Länge und 160 Metern Breite und ist nahezu exakt in Nord-Süd-Richtung ausgerichtet
2. Naqsh-e Jahan
-Zum Zeitpunkt seiner Anlage war er der weltweit größte Platz
-Er wurde gleichermaßen als Marktplatz, Gerichtsort, Spielfeld und Festplatz geplant
-Er ist von bedeutenden Bauwerken umgeben: Königspalast, Moscheen und Basar, die ihrerseits durch eine zweistöckige, den Platz umrahmende Arkatur verbunden sind
-So fügen sich der Platz und die ihn umgebende Bebauung zu einem geschlossenen Ensemble, das die Verknüpfung von weltlicher Kultur mit Geistlichem sowie mit Handel und Kommerz symbolisieren soll
-Die Sheikh Lotfollah Moschee ist eines der Meisterwerke der iranischen Architektur, das während des Safaviden-Reiches erbaut wurde und auf der Ostseite des Naqsh-e Jahan-Platzes in Isfahan im Iran steht
-Der Bau der Moschee begann 1603 und wurde 1619 abgeschlossen
-Sie wurde vom Chefarchitekten Mohammadreza Isfahani während der Regierungszeit von Shah Abbas I. von Persien erbaut
-Von den vier Denkmälern, die den Umfang des Naqsh-e Jahan-Platzes beherrschten, war dieses das erste, das gebaut wurde
- Zweck dieser Moschee war es, für den königlichen Hof privat zu sein, aus diesem Grund hat die Moschee keine Minarette und ist kleiner
