Everyone is now aware: "We can limit global warming. We must act decisively: we have to do more. Climate protection requires the commitment of all of us” (A. Merkel). According to the European Green Deal and the eTwinning topic 2020, our schools are trying to participate in this process too. We believe that through an Erasmus project we can show our students how they can participate actively and efficiently in climate protection, and that humanity's great problems, the environmental degradation, climate chaos, energy crises as well as quality of life, can be addressed and resolved through collaborations between disciplines and cultures.

These ‘warming stripe’ graphics are visual representations of the change in temperature as measured in each country over the past 100+ years. Each stripe or bar represents the temperature in that country averaged over a year. For most countries, the stripes start in the year 1901 and finish in 2021. For the ocean basins and for several countries with longer datasets available the stripes start in the 19th century instead.

Forests
Climate change threatens European forests.
In recent years European forests have suffered greatly from extreme climate conditions and their impacts. Huge parts of European`s forests are potentially at risk from pertubations like insect attacks. This is the main result of a study by an international team of scientists with the participation of Henrik Hartmann from the Max Planck Institute for biogeochemistry in Jena, Germany.
You need the letters number 12, 26, 32, 39 as solution words, including the headline

Forests cover a good third of Europe`s land mass. They play an important role in regulating the climate and the hydrological cycle. They provide wood, serve as habitat for a wide range of species and a recreational area for human beeings. Some scientists even suggest forestation as a measurement to mitigate climate change as forests take up CO2 as long as they grow.

Mediterranean plants could be an alternative that will soon populate native forests, as researchers from the Bavarian Office of Forest Genetics (AWG) and the Forest Research Institute Baden-Württemberg (FVA) have shown. Over the past five years, the team has successfully searched for candidates that thrive in dry Mediterranean climates. The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. The project tested and evaluated the cultivation of three exotic tree species in southern Germany: tree hazel (Corylus colurna), Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica) and Lebanon cedar (Cedrus libani).

Waste
Plastic pollution is currently one of the most urgent environmental problems. There is still no solution to get a grip on this problem. In Africa and Asia there is usually no collection or recycling at all, but other nations also have problems collecting and ,above all, sorting plastic properly. Plastic production has increased enormously in the last 15 years.
