HOW TO SET UP YOUR WALLET

supersisters startER kit

What is a non-custodial wallet?

A non custodial wallet allows you to own and control your digital assets. No service provider or government can prevent you from using your funds and assets as you wish. You'll need one to purchase & collect NFTs. For this tutorial, we will be using the MetaMask non-custodial wallet.

We're going to show you how to:

Download and install MetaMask at metamask.io

Create a new MetaMask account

Fund your MetaMask wallet with Ethereum

Step One: Download & Install MetaMask

To create a wallet, you first need to install the browser extension (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Edge browsers all support MetaMask)Go to https://metamask.io

Once on MetaMask's website, you'll click "Install MetaMask for Chrome" and you'll be taken to the Chrome store to download and add the extension to your browser. ‍

Step 2: Creating a New MetaMask Account

Once you've added the extension to your browser, the next step is setting up your account. After opening MetaMask, you'll see a screen similar to the one below and you'll want to select "Create a Wallet".

You'll then be asked to accept the terms of use and will need to create a password (this password will be needed for logging into your wallet from time to time). Then, the most important step: - revealing and securing your seed phrase (you can think of your seed phrase as serving a similar function as your debit card pin)Then click 'click here to reveal secret words':

You'll then see your 12-word secret backup phrase. Do not screenshare when doing this or let anyone see this phrase.

Do not copy & paste these words into your Notes app or anywhere on your computer or phone. Write them down on paper and store them offline. When writing down your seed phrase, remember that it must be written in sequential order in the same way that it was presented on the screen. Losing a seed phrase or mis-writing it means that you'll lose access to all of the crypto held in that wallet. You will then be asked to confirm that phrase in the same order it was presented in before.

Now you're done with the wallet set up!

Step 3: Funding your wallet with Ethereum

So now you have a wallet. The next step is funding it with some crypto! If using the browser extension, click on the little orange fox logo on the top right of the browser, enter your password and sign in to your wallet. It should look something like this:

Your wallet address will be at the top of the interface and if you click on it, it will copy the full 42 digit string of numbers and letters so you can paste them. Think of this like your home address. You can give it out to someone who wants to send you crypto, or you can use it to send yourself crypto from an exchange. To get Ethereum in your wallet, all you need to do is open an account at one of the many exchanges where you can buy it (Coinbase, Binance US, etc), link your bank account on their platform, purchase ethereum, and then once that investment goes through on the exchange, you can then send that crypto to your wallet using the 42 digit public key address. MetaMask does support in-app purchasing of crypto, but they have fairly high fees. If you're not concerned with that, it's a fine option. Also, keep in mind it takes 10 days for your Ethereum to be transferrable after purchasing on an exchange. And there you go! You're all set to start collecting NFTs!
