SS AMERICA

It was designed by the famous American naval engineer William Francis Gibbs, of the firm Gibbs & Cox, built for the United States Lines company and sponsored by the American first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt. Its construction was made of bronze and aluminum.

It suffered a strong storm on January 15, 1994 in the Canary Islands, when it was towed by the Ukrainian ship Neftegaz 67, with its propellers already disassembled and placed on the deck. Due to the storm and negligence, the tug cut the cable and the American Star was left adrift.
