First of all, what is school leaving?

It is known as an irregular attendance, or repeated absences and unjustified education center, minors of compulsory schooling age, or their non-schooling in this period.


SCHOOL DROPOUT IN THE EUROPEAN UNION

The share of 'early school leavers’ has steadily decreased in the European Union over the last 10 years (from 13.8% in 2010 to 9.9% in 2020).

EARLY LEAVERS WITHIN EU COUNTRIES

In 2020, Member States that reported the lowest shares of early leavers from education and training were Croatia, Greece, Slovenia, Ireland, and Poland.

In contrast, the highest shares were recorded in Malta, Spain, Romania, Italy and Bulgaria.

In 2020, 9.9 % of 18-24 year olds in the European Union were early leavers.

The European Union set an objective to be achieved by 2020: the School Dropout in the EU should be not more than 10 %.

This target was just met in 2020 with 9.9 %. This resolution sets a new EU objective: the share of early leavers from education and training should be less than 9 % by 2030.

In 2021, the communities that reported the lowest shares of early leavers from education and training were País Vasco, Asturias, Cantabria, Madrid and Navarra.

In contrast, the highest shares were recorded in Melilla, Ceuta, Andalucía Islas Baleares and Castilla La-Mancha.

The importance of the family atmosphere


In households where the mother has a primary education at most, the dropout rate for boys is almost one in two (48%) while that of girls drops to one third (29%).

Bullying

If they have a private space of study or if they share with their brothers; if they have a routine of study and a timetable; or if they have to go to bibliotheques to have resources (internet, laptop) to study.

The attention in the school

Students might not feel satisfactory about the learning environment due to the bad relationship with the teachers and the lack of resources and support of the institutions.

Some influencing factors...

There is a great likelihood that the students who suffer bullying feel like strangers when they are at school. Being afraid of going to school has a negative effect on the mental health, quality of life and academic performance of the student.
