1. By 1898, the empire included territories such as Australia, India, South Africa, New Zealand, islands in the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean, the West Indies, Gibraltar and other small countries or lands all over the world
2. This phrase means that Great Britain has colonised many countries that became British. As a consequence, one can say that wherever you are in the globe, it is always daylight in the British Empire Britain.
3. This quote is simply saying that British imperialism is at its highest point at the end of the 19th century

1. The picture shows people from different parts of the world like American Indians and Asians for example. There is a lot of movement and action too. In the background, many ships are portrayed but also soldiers and exotic animals. Both elephants and the tiger in between them symbolize strength, might and majesty. The woman carrying the British flag stands proud at the top with the sun behind her which means that Britain has managed to gather different nations around her. She is the main figure of the picture. The symbol of Britannia seems to be a female personification of Great Britain.
2. Sir Walter Raleigh’s quote perfectly illustrates what the picture wants us to understand in the sense that, through its navy and growing dominance of territories, Britain understood that in order to ensure wealth and power it had to expand overseas.
