Arc Reactor

ARC REACTOR

The Arc Reactor is an energy source originally designed by Howard Stark and Anton Vanko and later built by their sons Tony and Ivan.

It was originally developed as part of an attempt to replicate the cubic energy of the universe, based on Howard's research.

Tony Stark ended up building two versions - a large industrial reactor to power the machines at Stark's industrial headquarters, and a miniature version embedded in his chest to power his armor (aka RT) and protect against shrapnel reach his heart.

Although the first miniature version used a palladium core, later he synthesized a new element when palladium started poisoning him.

Over the years, he continued to develop the reactor, incorporating nanobots that made up his armor. Ivan Vanko, James Rhodes and Pepper Potts also used arc reactors in their armor.

The Arc Reactor is a power supply.

Only a full sized nuclear power plant can produce pure energy.

In terms of small size, a small thermoelectric generator which convert into electricity the heat emitted by the radioactive substance when it naturally decays into uranium-234. These were the type of long lasting power supplies that powered the twin Voyager spacecraft.

But in terms of absolute powerful, the Arc reactors performance can be compare to a nuclear weapon.

It is made with nuclear reactions both fission combined to fusion reactions.

So the Arc reactors can be used as a nuclear weapon.

Mark I

Iron Man Armor “Mark I” is Tony Stark's first Iron Man armor designed to help him to escape from the imprisonment of the Ten Rings who were trying to force him to build weapons for them.

Nevertheless, with the help of the professor Ho Yinsen, he build this armor which was made out of very limited resources, including spare metal parts and other machinery.

The armor crashed in the Afghan desert after initially trying to steal it and being attacked by the men of the Ten Rings, before being recycled by Obadiah Stein's own armor design. It was later exhibited in Stark's studio in the Malibu mansion until the latter was destroyed along with the armor.

The first origin takes place in Vietnam War.

Tony Stark is an eccentric billionaire with a cool attitude and a great popularity.

He has a scientific genius and overweening ambition.

According to creator Stan Lee, the first inspiration for this the character was Howard Hughes.

However, in 2008, Elon Musk was used as the model for Iron Man in the movies.

He is a billionaire like Tony Stark and owns industries dedicated to new technologies (SpaceX, Solar System).

He is very smart like Tony Stark, self-taught in programming, he managed to sell his first video game at the age of 12.

Schrapnel shards

Schrapnel shards

Tony Stark works in the manufacture of weapons for the American government.

One day, he had to go to Vietnam, while this country was at war against the Vietnamese, to demonstrate the power of one of his newest inventions of the time: the "transistors", objects capable of increasing the power of any weapon. Unfortunately, he accidentally jumps on a mine that shoots shards of shrapnel near his heart.

Captured by Vietnamese soldiers, he is forced by their leader to make weapons with the help of an Asian scientist, Professor Yinsen, also a prisoner.

Conscious of the imminent death of Tony Stark because of the fragments present in his chest, they decide to develop a device intended to stop their progression in the industrialist’s body: an armor, equipped with “transistors”.

During their escape, Professor Yinsen is killed by a stray bullet.

Once accustomed to his new body, Iron Man easily disposes of his opponents and flees. Iron Man begins to make a name for himself, becoming one of America's leading superheroes.

These metal parts in Tony stark body reminds everybody about the metal parts in soldier’s bodies during the different war of 20s.

Since the use of shells in armed conflicts, shrapnel were find in soldier’s body.

Jericho missile

One Jericho missile was developed by Stark Industries for the United States Armed Forces.

Tony Stark was meant to display the missile's capabilities to Air Force soldiers attending a demonstration in the Afghanistan desert.

While there, he was ambushed by the Ten Rings and held captive in order to build them a Jericho missile.

Obadiah Stane later sold Jericho missiles to the Ten Rings, missiles which would later be destroyed by Iron Man.

Since then, Stark Industries has stopped the fabrication of these dangerous weapons after Tony Stark commented on how they were used in battle.

The Jericho missiles in Iron man was taken from the first development contract for the Jericho signed between Israel and Dassault industries in 1963. “Jericho” was the codename with the reference to the biblical city of Jericho.

The “Jericho” missile splits into many small missiles after it is fired.

The US Air Force has a program to build swarming cruise missiles that can communicate with each other over datalink and coordinate their attacks on ground targets.

Movie: Iron Man (2008)

Black Widow

The first and most famous Russian spy is Natasha Romanoff. Created by writer Stan Lee and artists Don Rico and Don Heck, she first appeared as Iron Man's enemy in the comic book Tales of Suspense #52 in April 1964, but later she became a superheroin.

Her past is seen in detail in the movie "Black Widow".

She combines combat skills, intelligence, courage, beauty and humor.

Natalia Romanova, a descendant of the Russian imperial family, was abandoned as a child and adopted by a soldier.

She married a pilot named Alexei Shostakov.

She is then recruited by the KGB who thought that the Shostakovs would make good spies.

For the sake of a mission, Mr. Shostakov had to split up with his wife.

A KGB officer tells Natalia that her husband died during an experiment. Faced with this statement, she declares that she wants to be worthy of the memory of her husband. The KGB, having foreseen her reaction, trains her to become the spy, Black Widow.

Her first task is to infiltrate American industries and help an associate to eliminate Professor Anton Vanko who is considered as a traitor by the Soviets. But she is stopped several times by Iron Man.

We also know that when she joins the Avengers, she changes her nationality and becomes an American. That can be considered as propaganda.

Professor Yinsen

Professor Ho Yinsen is a supporting character of Iron Man in the Marvel Comics universe.

The character, created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Don Heck, first appeared in Tales of Suspense #39.

He was a brilliant physicist, engineer and pacifist from the fictional nation of Timbetpal.

Yinsen was captured in Siancong by the warlord Wong-Chu before Tony Stark was also captured.

Stark's US military convoy had tripped a land mine and he was injured with shrapnel that was slowly moving toward his heart.

Yinsen builds a magnetic chest plate for Stark, thus preventing the shrapnel from reaching his heart.

Wong-Chu then orders Yinsen and Stark to build weapons for him. Instead, Yinsen helps Stark secretly to build the first Iron Man armor.

Yinsen sacrifices his life distracting Wong-Chu in order to buy time for Stark to power up his armor. Stark dons the armor, becoming Iron Man, and defeats Wong-Chu.

During the Cold War (1947-1991), some countries have to choose between a communist party (USSR and the Eastern bloc) and a capitalist party (USA and the Western bloc).

Vietnam takes part in this questioning. The Vietnam War (November 1, 1955 - April 30, 1975) raged between the South (Western bloc) and the North (Eastern bloc) of Vietnam.

The Ten Rings Society, campaign for a communist regime, so they capture Tony Stark and Professor Yinsen.

The creators of this character make propaganda because The USA is against North Vietnam, they make them look like cruel and heartless.

Welcome to our museum of Iron Man !

You will discover his history, his armor and watch videos of him fighting...

We wish you a great visit !

Historical context and Iron Man's values :

At the beginning of his superhero carrer, Tony Stak's main occupation was to fight against the communists in the context of the cold war, much more consistently than other Marvel comics.

Tony Stark became Iron Man when his life was in danger, so he created armored armor which he used to escape his captors, return home and become the armored superhero known as Iron Man , fighting terrorists as well as his former business partner Obadiah Stane.

Tony Stark is perhaps the hero of Marvel whose personality is the most complex and the most worked : his wealth and his intelligence make him someone arrogant and egocentric, but in addition he shows a great sense of humor and unparalleled loyalty.

After joining the army, Steve Rogers became a soldier in the service of his country, but he remains a frail young man without great physical abilities.

He decides to accept what the leader of the Renaissance project offfers him, the objective was to create super soldiers deployed during the Second World War against the Axis forces.

The experiment worked successfully on young Steve Rogers and he became the only success of this project.

Accepting to do this experiment represents a risk since we know that Red Skull suffered a facial malformation following the injection of the serum. So it shows Captain America's morals and willpower that made him the superhero he is today.

Peggy Carter is a very important character in the history of Captain America since she was an agent of the reserve scientific section during the Second World War, then one of the founders of the shield thus allowing her to join the SSR to fight the division Nazi secret weapons. She participates in the Renaissance project of which Steve Rogers was the guinea pig. That's how she met him. She gave him the strength to fight, but unfortunately after Captain America went into hibernation, she couldn't recognize the love of her life due to her old age and passed away peacefully.

Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers

Margaret Peggy Carter becomes a spy and detective to fight the nazis during world war 2

Defenders of the world of the United States could express themselves through this shield representing the flag of America.

The shield and the costume therefore have the same characteristics except for the weapon which is this one.

Indeed, during most of his fights, it became the defensive and offensive weapon of Steve Rogers. It has, however, evolved over the years and taken on a round shape instead of a traditional shield shape.

The shield has also evolved with technology and therefore allows it to absorb energy when he takes a hit and not hurt him.

Captain America shield called "Retcon"

Steve Rogers grew up suffering from health problems, following which he was rejected from military service despite several failed attempts to join the Army. Although the dates of this poster and the war do not match, it shows Steve Rogers' determination to become a soldier ready to fight the enemy. Military service does not give him impressive physical abilities but allowed him to show the courage he had among these other soldiers.

Indeed, when an officer threw a bomb during an exercise, all the soldiers took refuge while Steve Rogers jumped on it to stifle the explosion.

Propaganda poster made in 1917 by James Montgomery Flagg

The comics appeared at a harmful time in history. Different themes were discussed throughout the comics like war and other sensitive topics at that time.

In it, Captain America was the main hero and offered a fictional universe populated by powers.

As seen in some of them, Captain America is in close-up and puts the Nazis in an uncomfortable situation.

He comforted the real American soldiers fighting the Nazi army.

Indeed, they read these comics to cheer themselves up. The character of Captain America was therefore created with the aim of supporting the troops.

His costume depicted in the movies

What better than to represent the flag of the country for which we fight by his costume?

This is how the identity of Captain America was recognized: through representative patterns of America such as blue, red and white. We also find a star, instead of 50 to represent the 50 states, we can think that only one represents the nation of the United States of America.

Although his uniforms have evolved since 1940, Captain America remains faithful to his country by always styling it with elegance.

On his helmet, the A inscribed represents America and the wings that were once there show the ambition of the captain to always go further, in other words to touch the sky.

The symbol of America invincible is thus represented by Steve Rogers.

Captain America's costume called "original" or "origin"

Churchill was a twentieth-century British statesman and writer.

During World War II, he was also the British Prime Minister.

However, in the Marvel universe, he is named leader of a war division called special operation executive. As part of this operation, he meets Peggy Carter.

Thus, we can think that the actions of Churchill during the various wars in which he participated have certain stories inspired by Marvel and including that of Captain America.

By influencing the creators of this superhero, they offered Winston Churchill a place in the movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

- Do you want to know an interesting theory?

As Captain America would have aged in the movie Avengers: Endgame, we can think that he was not frozen and therefore that he is not Steve Rogers ?

Like the shield is intact maybe even he never fought thanos ?

Do you think that Steve Rogers would never have been Captain America and that he would have spent his life peacefully alongside Peggy Carter?

Originally, Dr Manhattan was well received because he is so much stronger than the average superhero and has interesting and unique problems. Despite this fact, he is not very famous because he is in a parallel universe of the DC Comics and has a more mature story that is not for children. In the US, many people know him, but in other countries, only big DC comics fans know him.

Click to watch the trailer

The most popular version of Doctor Manhattan's story is the 2009 fim Watchmen. Directed by Zack Snyder, it is more mature than most superhero movies.

The Watchmen

The Watchmen are the group of superheroes that Doctor Manhattan often works with. There are six principal members including Doctor Manhattan, The Comedian, Nite Owl, Ozymandias, Rorschach and Silk Spectre.

The Comedian

Silk Spectre

Doctor Manhattan

Ozymandias

Nite Owl

Rorschach

Blake as known as the Comedian was proficient with many shotguns, pistols, and was shown using a variety of conventional weaponry in his adventures (flamethrowers, grenade launchers, etc.)

Silk Spectre is very agile and athletic and has excellent hand to hand combat skills.

His powers are very similar to the Nite Owl. Intelligence, martial arts control and agility.

He is excellent in martial arts and can be compared to martial arts masters. He is also very intelligent, and is often considered the leader of the group.

Rorschach does not really have any apparent superpowers but has an incredible force of will and determination.

The most popular version of the Watchmen story is that of the 2009 film: Watchmen. In it, we follow the characters as Rorschach attempts to solve the murder of the Comedian, a member of the now-disbanded Watchmen. The film is narrated by Rorschach through entries into his journal. Throughout the film, we are shown the darker side of superhero stories that is rarely shown. For example, the movie is much more violent and bloody than most superhero movies, as well as having many adult topics and ideas present throughout the film. The film highlights Doctor Manhattan’s disconnect with mankind and his overall detachment from his previous, human life. We also see many of the relationships and their problems within the Watchmen group.

The Transformation

Dr. Manhattan began his story as Dr. Jonathan Osterman, a nuclear scientist in the Manhattan Project for the U.S. Government. During his research, he was locked inside a test chamber and ripped apart atom by atom. He slowly reconstructed himself until he became the superhero known as Doctor Manhattan. He experiences time all at once and has essentially unlimited power. He can create and destroy anything at will and is considered a god by many. The conflict comes from his detachment from humanity and disinterest in humanity’s problems. The U.S. Government tries to turn him into a weapon but he refuses. He becomes an independent entity who follows no orders.

Description and
Powers

Doctor Manhattan's body is humanoid, and he is tall and muscular. His height and relative size vary depending on his needs, but generally remains above 1.83 m tall. He is completely blue and has no hair. On his forehead he has etched a stylized image of a hydrogen atom. As Doctor Manhattan, his costume started out as a black leotard. He eventually went on to wear nothing at all, since he had become indifferent to the need for clothing. The only purpose his original costume served was to make those around him more comfortable. Despite the fact that he does not relate to human beings, he is in a relationship with Silk Spectre. Many of the problems in the film arise from this relationship.

Jon is the only character in Watchmen to possess superpowers. Throughout Watchmen, he is shown to be absolutely powerful and invulnerable to all harm; even when his body is disintegrated, he can reconstruct it in a matter of seconds and remains unharmed. He is capable of altering his size depending on his needs, for example, reconstructing himself in a much bigger form. He can hurl huge objects effortlessly with his hands. He is also an omnikinetic. He does not need air, water, food, or sleep, and is immortal. He can teleport himself and others over limitless distances. He is also capable of true flight, although he uses only levitation in most of his appearances. Due to his perception of time, he sees his past, present, and future simultaneously.

The Vietnam War was a conflict in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from 1 November 1955 to 30 April 1975. It was the second of the Indochina Wars and was officially fought between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. North Vietnam was mostly supported by the Soviet Union and China, while South Vietnam was supported by the United States. The war is widely considered to be a Cold War-era proxy war. It lasted almost 20 years, with direct U.S. involvement ending in 1973.

The Watergate Scandal was a formative time in American History. Five intruders were arrested for breaking into the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee. After a lengthy investigation, it was found that these intruders were paid with money that linked back to Richard Nixon, who was running for re-election at the time. This caused a massive uproar in the United States and broke the trust of the American people.

Joe Samachson

Edmund Good

Tomahawk was a DC comics character created in the 1940s by the writer Joe Samachson and the artist Edmund Good.

Popular in the Western genre, he was published in Star Spangled Comics, World's Finest Comics and in his own eponymous series : Tomahawk.

So a total of 140 issues!

But, in the 1960s, people lost interest in his stories...

But who really was Tomahawk?

He was an american frontier soldier who served under George Washington during the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) for America's independence against the British Empire.

His physical appearance is a blond and blue-eyed man wearing a "coonskin cap", which is a hat made with racoon fur and its tail, originally made by native americans.

His origin story is really hard to find because the comic book is considered "lost media". Actually, some people sell it but the price is incredibly high ! The only informations available are the fact that he might have lost his parents when he was very young and then was raised by a native american tribe.

Tomahawk doesn't have any superpower but he used to be an excellent horseman and an amazing hand to hand fighter. He also used a weapon called "Tomahawk" like himself. This weapon was created by the Iroquois, a native american tribe. Tomahawk's sworn ennemies were initially the British Empire, and more precisely a man called "Lord Shilling" who was a british noble. However, Tomahawk also fought against gigantic monsters: Godzilla, King Kong, under water creature and even against dinosaur! Although they were very dangerous creatures, he always used to win.

Natasha Romanoff, born in 1928 in Stalingrad, is a descendant of the Russian imperial family.

The KGB, which got wind of her abilities, decided to recruit her and integrated her into the academy of the Red Room. She is trained there to be part of the elite of female spies.

The KGB who foresaw this reaction had previously trained her to become the high-flying spy who would soon be known as Black Widow.

Initially, the heroine does not act under a costumed identity.

Some years later, Natasha was determined to give up her old activities, she reveals her true identity and offers her services to the S.H.I.E.L.D and the Avengers.

After this music filled with emotions, you might need a bathroom break, hence (you see what we did there?) we thought of everything, so go on to find out!

In the film Black Widow , the final costume finally includes additional details, in addition to two thigh cases and accompanying pistols

The white appears to him as a strange color, but the images indicate that Black Widow wears this new costume for a tactical reason. It is surrounded by snow, which allows it to blend much better than what it usually wears.

Black Widow’s white costume comes directly from Marvel Comics, but it’s by no means a classic outfit. He first made his debut in the limited series Black Widow: Deadly Origin, released in 2010 to coincide with his debut in MCU in Iron Man 2.

What does Black Widow’s white costume mean for the movie? Some have theorized that this teases the inclusion of Winter Soldier, another character from the Deadly Origin series. But most of the time, this is related to the extremely cold weather in the setting of the film, which is in Eastern Europe and, at least in part, in Budapest. Being in Eastern Europe explains why Black Widow meets so many characters associated with the USSR, such as the Red Guardian and Yelena Bolova, one of the new Black Widows.

FK

Black Widow is often dressed in black. The suit is leather, it includes a belt with a touch of red on it as well as on his gloves. She uses two pistols that she puts in two holster on her flank

FK

The new enemy of the United States is the communist world, so the communist character (here the Russian) is the enemy to beat, and this war goes through all the means, including those of communication and culture, and comics are no exception.

FK

There are great Communist and Russian villains in the service of the USSR like the Black Widow.

FK

Weaponry

She also uses some glock 26s as well as some bracelets that will shock any reckless opponent.

MS

We can see her using a sniper rifle from the Mass Effect video games series. Hence, we will not see her with this kind of weapon in movies.

MS

Natasha wields 2 electric batons that non-other than Tony Stark created. Using electricity is a really effective way to quickly deal with opponents and effectiveness being a quality that Natasha is very fond of, she will be using these batons for the rest of her life.

MS

Iconic Stance

Black Widow's Landing

Natasha made it famous but a lot more superheroes such as Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and even Tony Stark used it, just for the style points if I had to guess. The character jumps or drops from high in the sky and slams into the ground while crouching with feet spread apart, one knee bent, with a fist pounding the floor.

The move, also called a three-point landing, has become so well-worn that it's literally parodied in the "Black Widow" movie.
