The origins of civilization

The Pyu Kingdom

People migrated from Tibet and China
--> They established themselves in a fertile land around the 1st century BCE
Based around the Chindwin and Irrawaddy rivers (Trade, agriculture, transports)

Chinese records' description :
Pyu life is elegant, graceful
Well educated, respectful and disciplined as prison were unknown and as the government didn't punish the few criminals at all
Rich civilization with jewels, gold, jade crystal and many temples

The Pagan Empire

Early 9th century AD --> fall of the Pyu kingdom
Establishment of the Burmans in this vacant area and creation of their capital city : Pagan
Defenses strenghtened against the chineses and alliances made
Unification of the present-day Myanmar
Around 4,000 temples and hundreds still conserved
--> Testimony of a splendid empire
Around 1290 --> fall of Pagan Empire because of Mongol conquest
