Main leaders of world war 1

in 1848, Franz Joseph started serving as leader of Austria-Hungary. In 1914 he decided to declare war on Serbia. He continued to serve as leader until 1916, only half way through the war.

Austria-Hungary

In 1888, Wilhelm ll started to serve as leader of Germany. They declared war on Russia just 4 days after Austria-Hungary declared war on Hungary. Which this attack on Russia made them realize they would also have to attack France. Wilhelm served until the end of the war in 1918.

Germany

Raymond Poincare became President of France in 1913, just a year before the war. France was forced to join the war when the Germans attacked them. Raymond continued to rule 2 years after the war ended until 1920.

France

In 1910, George the Fifth began his rule in Great Britain. 3 days after Germany joined the war, George declared war on them to prevent the French defeat. He continued to rule in Great Britain until 1936.

In 1914, Antonio Salandra began his Presidency in Italy. He ruled only half way through the war until 1916. Italy joined in 1915 when declaring war on Austria-Hungary.

Nicholas ll began his rule of Russia in 1894 and stayed until a year before the war ended, 1917. He was reluctant to join the war, but was under attack from Germany. They eventually left to fight their own revolution.

Russia

Mehmed V began his rule of the Ottoman Empire as Sultan in 1909. He ruled until 1918. The Ottoman Empire entered the war once they decided to attack Russia by surprise.
