The DANAs lurk in the Mar Menor

Mar Menor Detectives

INTRODUCTION

MURCIA

When we started the Initiation to Research subject at the institute, we all felt as if we were in an unexplored, strange place... But as we progressed, we learned, we were wrong, but in the end we succeeded and improved more and more, until we reached what the project is now.

We are four 1st ESO students from the IES Mediterraneo institute in Cartagena. And, like everyone in our city, we want us, our children, our grandchildren... to be able to continue enjoying the Mar Menor. Since we were little we have always gone to the Mar Menor to swim every summer, we saw fish and seahorses and we dived in the sea with crystal clear water, but over the years we realized how the water was turning greenish. We want to recover those moments in which we really enjoy.

Objectives

Our objective with this project is: Demonstrate that there is a relationship between climate change and pollution of the Mar Menor. We also want to create a table that records the pattern in which atmospheric phenomena appear and the moment in which the most important events begin to occur. But our most important objective is to be able to make known and educate not only the population that enjoys the Mar Menor, but also the whole world that global warming affects everyone and everything and that this is a problem that can go further and further. end, if nothing is done it will not be able to be fixed.

Hypothesis

The problem of pollution of the Mar Menor has some relationship with climate change and the phenomena that it produces.

As we have seen in the previous table, as the years go by, the temperature increases at the same time as climate change, so we can conclude that climate change generates more temperature and more and more intense atmospheric phenomena.

COLORS

Black: when we see the color black we have discovered that it means that the water is highly contaminated with different substances than those that the water should have in its natural state. Light gray: when it is light gray, the water has slight signs of contamination. Not enough to cause anoxia. Dark gray: when the water is dark gray, together with the previously mentioned black color, it is enough to produce anoxia because it is highly contaminated with substances foreign to the natural composition of the water.

CONCLUSIONS

At the end of our research we have determined that climate change generates more temperature and more adverse atmospheric phenomena. We have also determined when anoxia and exponential drops in temperature appear. But more importantly, we've figured out how to prevent this from happening by looking at when and how colors appear. And when this happens, provide it by oxygenating the water with activities such as water mills or hydro motors that move the water and fill it with oxygen.
