Pour former le prétérit simple, il faut savoir qu'il existe deux groupes de verbes en anglais. Les verbes réguliers auront la terminaison -d ou -ed. Les verbes irréguliers n'obéissent à aucune règle : il faut les apprendre par coeur.

After 6 years, he fled back to
England and became a priest.
He went back to Ireland
where he chased the snakes
