Meeting with Abraham Lincoln

After years of working at home and at school, he decided to learn the law on his own and became a lawyer. In 1830 he was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives and then to the United States House of Representatives. The country had been going through a period of great tension over slavery for several years, and Lincoln decided to oppose it. Following a series of debates against Stephen A. Douglas on the subject of the extension of slavery, he became very popular around 1858.

The journey of Abraham Lincoln

He was the sixteenth president of the United States, elected twice, in November 1860 and November 1864, and succeeded in maintaining peace and unity in the face of a very great crisis: the Civil War. He was also the first Republican president of the United States

Abraham Lincoln had to keep the peace but he had the war.

He was a very popular president but was assassinated shortly after being re-elected.

At the time, slaves were not allowed to have the same rights as white people, so Abraham Lincoln had to change things and ban slavery.

He was the first white president in the United States to consider that it should not be allowed to use black people to work for free.
