1. WHAT IS COVID?

Infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, or SARS-CoV-2, causes COVID-19.

The recent outbreak began in Wuhan, China. Reports of the first cases of COVID-19 began in December 2019. Coronaviruses are common in certain species of animals, such as cattle and camels. Although the transmission of coronaviruses from animals to humans is not common, this new strain probably comes from bats, although a study suggests that pangolins could be the origin. Some reports trace the first cases to a seafood and animal market in Wuhan. It is possible that SARS-CoV-2 began to spread to humans from here.
