This is your first step. Watch the video about different kinds of families in the next button. Then, go over the numbers from 1 to 10 to review the main concepts included in the video. Finally, be ready to talk to your classmates about it.

A family is a group of people related to one another by blood, marriage, or strong common bond. One of the primary roles of a family is to love and take care of each other.

Families come in a lot of different sizes and combinations. There is NO right or wrong way a family should look like.

Nuclear Family: Family that consists of one/two parent(s) and their children. Extended Family: Family that includes other members such as aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, grandparents, etc.

Gay/Lesbian Family: Family that has two moms or two dads.

Single-Parent Family: Family that has only one parent: single mother or single dad.

Blended Families: Two single-parent families that join and make a bigger family.

Adopted Family: Family that consists of a child adopted by blood relative or another caring adult. Foster Family: Family that takes care of a child who cannot stay with their biological parents.

No-children Family: Family that does not have children. They may have pets and consider them part of their family.

Chosen Family: Family that usually does not include blood relatives; instead they are made of friends and other supportive people that take on the role of a family: to love and take care of each other.

Families can be DIVERSE. Family members can be of a different ethnicity, race, or religion. No matter the type of family you have, they should give you LOVE and SUPPORT and make you feel SPECIAL.
