Steve Wickham, a local violinist, meets The Edge at the bus stop one morning and asks if the band needs a violin on their next album. That's how he became a member of U2 for a day, the time to add a violin part at the end of the song.

The story of Sunday Bloody Sunday, everyone knows it. It's a song about a peaceful march that turns into a bloodbath. But did you know how The Edge got the idea? This song was born from a guitar riff. During the honeymoon in Jamaica of two of the band members, The Edge, the guitarist, had a fight with his girlfriend. During this same period, he went through an existential crisis that made him doubt himself a lot. He poured all his fear, frustration and self-loathing into the first version of the song. Initially, it was only a draft, without title or melody

I can't believe the news today

Oh, I can't close my eyes and make it go away
How long, how long must we sing this song?
How long? How long?
'Cause tonight
We can be as one
Tonight

Lyrics

Broken bottles under children's feet

Bodies strewn across the dead-end street
But I won't heed the battle call
It puts my back up, puts my back up against the wall
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Alright, let's go

Lyrics

And the battle's just begun

There's many lost, but tell me who has won?
The trenches dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters torn apart
.

And it's true we are immune
When fact is fiction and TV reality
And today the millions cry (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
We eat and drink while tomorrow they die (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
