Compatibility & integration

Air-to-air heat pumps who are controlled by a remote control are compatible with the tado° Smart AC Control (SACC).


The SACC will take over the infrared commands of the old remote control.

X-to-water heat pumps can be controlled with a room thermostat.

Some systems just run weather dependent with an outside sensor but usually have connection for a room thermostat on the heat pump controller

The tado° Smart Thermostat (Wired & Wireless EU) integrate with the following interfaces:


- Single relay


- Opentherm (Yellow flags in HVACtool apply)
- BS bus RC (Yellow flags in HVACtool apply)

There is no general efficiency loss when controlling a heat pump with single relay, as the hydraulic concept and heat pump controller are responsible for the highest efficiency.

This heat pump can be connected through a single relay and Relay interface.


The connected room thermostat is only responsible for the inside temperature measurement and setpoint communication.
The heat pump controller itself is responsible for the flow temperature.

The outside temperature sensor transmits the actual measured temperature used for heating curve and bivalent point settings

The Smart Thermostat will transmit measured and set room temperatures.

Max thermostat for underfloor heating, to avoid temperatures of more than 50°C to reach the underfloor heating system.

3-port diverter valve to switch between heating and hot water production

Between the indoor unit and the outdoor unit there is a BUS connection, which transfer valuable data of the system.

This heat pump is only compatible with single relay.


The tado° Smart Thermostat is connected to the heat pump and switches it on when there is a call for heat.

The heat pump is responsible to turn on the heating boiler when the bivalent point is reached.

The Smart Thermostat will close the contact of NO and COM and thus switching on the heat pump

A small buffer boiler in series with the return line.

Buffers can either be placed in series or parallel, there is no substantial difference in efficiency.


Auxiliary heating (heating boiler) which is turned on when the heat pump doesn't have enough power anymore.


Production of domestic hot water is in this case kept at the heating boiler (combi).
