This statue is on the General Catroux place. They represent the three generations of Dumas. The first one was made by Gustave Doré in 1883 and it represents his father Dumas. The second was realized by René de Saint-Marceaux in 1906 and it represents the son, Alexandre Dumas. The last one is a tribute for slavery’s victims since it represents broken chains. This is where, like we said before, the ceremonie in memorie of slavery’s victims took place.

The three Musketeers

With many fights and romantic twists and turns, The Three Musketeers is the typical example of the cloak and dagger novel and the success of the novel was such that Dumas adapted it himself for the theater, and took up the four heroes in the sequel to the trilogy. It has been the subject of numerous film and television adaptations.

Each musketeer lives in a dwelling which resembles him. Porthos lives in rue du Vieux-Colombier, Aramis has a house no one has ever entered and Porthos lives in rue Férou. Many poets and writers have decides to settle in this small street over the decades, such as Jacques Prévert or Ernest Hemingway.

It is also the place where we can see the entire poem by Arthur Rimbaud, Le Bateau Ivre, in calligraphic letters.

The Montecristo brand was created in 1935 in Havana by Alonso Ménendez, a Spanish businessman. At the time, public readings were set in the aim to entertain the workers who made the cigars. Alexandre Dumas’ novel was so loved by the workers that they asked Alonso Ménendez to name one cigar after the hero’s name.
