- 22 May 1859 : Doyle was born in Edimburg, Scotland.
- 1864 : He was sent to his aunt Mary Burton, due to his father's alcoholism.
- 1868 : He was sent to England, to a Jesuit school in Lancashire.
- 1875 : He went to school in Austria, in a Jesuit school.

PERSONAL LIFE
- He later rejected the Catholic faith and became an agnostic.He also later became a spiritualist mystic.
- 1885 : Doyle married Louisa. She died from tuberculosis in 1906.
- 1899-1902 : He fought during the Boers war in South Africa. After the war, he has been anoblished.
- 1907 : He married Jean Elizabeth Leckie.
- Doyle fathered five children.
- 7 July 1930 : He died of a heart attack at the age of 71.

PUBLIC LIFE
- From 1876 to 1881 : Doyle studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh Medical School.
- 1891 : Doyle embarked on the study of ophthalmology in Vienna.
- He opened a small office and consulting room. According to his autobiography, and his efforts as an ophthalmologist were a failure
- 1900 & 1906 : He ran for Parliament twice as a Liberal Unionist, but was not elected.
- 1906 & 1908 : Doyle personally investigated two closed cases, which led to two men being exonerated of the crimes of which they were accused

Doyle's first novels were The Mystery of Cloomber, not published until 1888, and the unfinished Narrative of John Smith, published only posthumously, in 2011.
Between 1888 and 1906, Doyle wrote seven historical novels, which he and many critics regarded as his best work.
