- Lille is a true “college town,” with over 100,000 of its inhabitants being students!- There is a free zoo very near to the city center, the Parc Zoologique, where you can see over 70 different species of animals.- It is renowned for its summer markets, festivals and concerts. The most famous event is the Braderie de Lille, the largest flea market in all of Europe.

- The Big Clock Street, Rue du Gros, became the first pedestrian street in France in 1971.- The Notre-Dame cathedrale of Rouen with its 151 metres high spire is the 4th tallest cathedrale in the world.- The cathedrale Tour de Beurre (the Butter tower) has an amazing carillon of 55 church bells.- The old historic town of Rouen is very famous for its half-timbered houses. There are around 2,000 of these traditional buildings and half have been restaured.

- It has 362 historic monuments, with some dating back to Roman times. - It took 45 years to build the Place de la Bourse. - The Miroir d’eau (Water Mirror) in Bordeaux is the world’s largest reflecting pool. It’s 3,450 sqm. - The rue Sainte-Catherine in Bordeaux, a 1.2 km long street, is one of the longest pedestrian streets in Europe.

- It was originally created in 1870 for local fishermen. - Biarritz was made fashionable after 1854 by Napoleon III and his Spanish empress, Eugénie. - Visited by Queen Victoria, Edward VII, and Alfonso XIII of Spain, Biarritz began to call itself “the queen of resorts and the resort of kings.” - The town is a popular resort for windsurfers and surfers.

- Toulouse is 2000 years old. - It is known as the “Pink City” because most buildings in the city used coloured bricks. - The University of Toulouse is one of the oldest in Europe, founded in 1229. - Toulouse was founded 4th century BC by Celtic people called the Volques Tectosages.

It was founded 2,600 years ago by Greeks from Focea (now called Phocaea in Turkey). - It has 2 300 days of sunshine per year. - Marseille has the biggest commercial port in France. - It is the city of soap. Production of soap started in the Middle Ages, because there was a surplus of raw materials, like olive oil and soda.

- Lyon is part of the UNESCO’s World Heritage. - The famous French chef Paul Bocuse has kept his 3 stars in the Michelin guide for now over 51 years, making his restaurant L’Auberge du Pont de Collonges the oldest and most renown restaurant in France. - The Petit Prince’s father (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry ) was born in Lyon. It is the 4th most translated book in the World. - Lyon has 400 secret passageways.

- Nice was named after a Greek goddess, Nike (Victory). - Every year in February, the carnival of Nice is a colourful and festive event. - It is the 5th most populated city in Frnace, after Paris, Marseille, Lyon and Toulouse. - A lot of rich and famous people have a holiday home in Nice, that is not a myth!- Nice only joined France in 1860.

- It is the capital city of Corsica, the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. - Although Corsica is located closer to the Italian mainland and Sardinia, it is a part of France since 1768. - Napoleon Bonaparte was born in Ajaccio in 1769 just after the city became the capital of Corsica. - Ajaccio became the first French town to be liberated from the German occupation during WW II.
