Facebook Dating, Workplace, what's next?

Meta (Facebook) has shifted its main focus from working on real-life services, over to creating new ways to use Virtual Reality. That definitely differentiates the company from the fictional one that we are comparing it to. However, even an employee of Facebook compared the two companies when Dave Egger's book was released. In a Guardian article from 2017 he mentions not only the similarities regarding work ethic and campus life at Facebook...

I highly suggest reading the article and forming your own opinion on the comparison of the two companies.

Food for thought

"In Eggers' novel, it's a company that has the power. The difference is that the people couldn't fight against the oppressors in "1984." But there is something people can do to curb the all-pervading power of data-collecting Internet groups and intelligence agencies: stop feeding them." *

In case you need a recap of 1984:

Facebook purchased the company Oculus VR in 2014. Since then the implementation of VR into our daily lives hasn't soared. Nevertheless, the company Meta (Facebook) is working on creating a lot of different things to use the technology on. The main goal is to create a digital world, with a digital economy that people spend real money on that creators of digital products can profit off of. Needless to say, after Meta secures a big chunk of said money.
