Known as 'Día de Andalucía', this holiday commemorates the Statute of Autonomy of Andalucia referendum held on February 28th 1980, in which the Andalusian people voted for the statute that made Andalusia an autonomous community of Spain.
HISTORY OF THE ANDALUSIAN DAY
It's common for many villages throughout Andalusia to decorate their balconies with flowers and Andalusian flags.In many schools this day is celebrated with a party that includes activities related to Andalusia, such as: the anthem, the typical Andalusian breakfast, etc.The tradiditional breakfast on this day is bread with olive oil and sugar or salt.
TRADITIONS DURING THE ANDALUSIAN DAY
In the middle of the Andalucía flag, you will see the coat of arms, which consists of an image of the mythical Greek hero Heracles between two columns. The columns represent the Pillars of Heracles. These are the rocks on either side of the Straits of Gibraltar. The Capital of Andalucía is Seville. It is the second largest autonomous area and has the largest population out of the 17 autonomous regions in Spain.

-Andalucia is the most populous Autonomous Community in Spain (18% of the total national population) and the second largest in terms of territory. -Andalucia is home to over 70 bullrings, the most famous and important of which is the Real Maestranza in Seville.-Would you know where the rainiest place in Spain can be found? Well, it is in the region of Grazalema (Cádiz). -El Mulhacén is the highest peak in the entire national territory with an altitude of 11,411 feet and it's located in Granada.

-Every spring, the Strait of Gibraltar has the chance to enjoy one of the largest bird migrations in the world.-The Andalucian Community has 111 golf courses, of which 66 are located on the Costa del Sol, making Málaga the Spanish province with the most golf courses.-Depending on what day of the week that February 28th falls on, the holiday may be extended to bridge the weekend or moved if it falls on a weekend. While these may not be official holidays, many businesses and shops may close on these days.
CURIOSITIES ABOUT ANDALUCIA
Blas Infante is known as the "father of Andalucia"having fought for what is today the "Estatuto de Autonomia de Andalucia" (Self-governing statute for Andalucia). Blas Infante Pérez de Vargas was born at 11am 5th July 1885 in the house at 55 Calle Carrera in village of Casares (Málaga). This birth house is now a museum and tourist office. As a young man he often spent time in the summer at the house of his brother Ignacio, in Sabinillas, Between 1896 and 1899 he studied a the College of the "Padres Escolapios de Archidona". . He returned to Casares where he worked as an assistant to his father who was employed as Secretary to the Municipal Courts. In 1904 he went to the University of Granada where he took a law degree in only two years. He passed his public examinations at the age of 24, and had to wait untill he was 25 (due to a legal stipulation) to take up position of Notary in village of Cantillana (Sevilla).
