key issues
Pollution
Overpopulation
Species extinction / Deforestation
Public health issues
Pollution
Air pollution
- chemicals realesed into the air trough harmful gases, burning of fuels and other byproducts of human live
- polluted air can cause many diseases in humans and animals
Water pollution
- toxins from industrial and human waste are introduced into our water supplies
- water can cause many diseases
- we can't drink it anymore
Light pollution
- humans produce excessive amounts of loud noises
- including industrial and vehicle sources
- excessive noises can interfere with animal communication
- can harm animals that rely on sound for hunting and navigation
Noise pollution
- humans produce to much artificial light
- the light interferes with natural cycles of light and darkness in the environment
- artificial light can confuse noncturnal animals and animals which hunt at night or rely on the stars for navigation
Overpopulation
- Human population continues to grow
- at the beginning of the 20th century with 1.6 billion people
- right now, about 7.5 billion
- estimates put us at nearly 10 billion by 2050
- growing global populations, combined with growing affluence, putting greater pressure on essential natural resources, like water
- most growth is happening in Africa and in southern and eastern Asia
Public health issues
- medical issue that affects a significant portion of a specific population
Top ten health concerns:
Species extinction/Deforestation
- wild animals are hunted to extinction for bushmeat, ivory or "medical" products
- At sea, huge industrial fishing boats clean out entire fish populations
- loss and destruction of habitat are also major factors
- Red List of threatened and endangered species continues to grow
- wild forests get destroyed, especially in the tropics
- 7.3 million hectares of forest are destroyed each year
- tropical forests used to cover 15 percent of the planet's land area, now down to 6 or 7 percent
- destroyed to make way for soybean/palm oil plantations, or other agricultural monocultures
What can we do?
- take public transport
- turn the lights of when leaving a room
- recycle paper plastic, metal and organic materials
- walk or ride a bike when possible
- stop/don't start smoking
- protect natural areas
- much more
Conclusion
In conclusion I can say that I think it is very important for us to start talking more about environmental problems in school and in generell. We all have to do something to help our planet and stop destroying it.
Thank you for you Attention :)
