INDEX

The conquest of Ireland was carried out between 1649 and 1653 by the forces of the English Parliament, led by Oliver Cromwell and his New Model Army during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. Since the rebellion of 1641, the island of Ireland had been mainly under the control of the "Confederate Irish Catholics", who in 1649 entered into an alliance with the "political party of the English Royalists", the side that supported King Charles I and that they had been defeated in the English Civil War. Finally, Cromwell's forces defeated the "Irish Coalition" and the "Carlists", eventually occupying the country, thus bringing the Confederate wars in Ireland to an end.
