Over the years everything has changed a lot, so let's talk about what life was like in my town, Báguena, about 70 years ago.

Children at school.

We will start talking about school. By the time Mª Pilar was a child, they started school at the age of 6 and finished it when they were 14, . They went to class every day except at the weekends. They started school at 9 in the morning and finished it at 1 in the afternoon, but they also had to attend lessons in the afternoon from 3 to 5, so they were in class a total of 6 hours a day.

At that time there were many children in town so the classes were numerous. Boys and girls went to different classes and couldn't mix with each other.

SCHOOL


All the subjects that they learned in class were grouped in a single book called "Enciclopedia 1º" and when they had seen all the subjects of that book they went on to the next one called "Enciclopedia 2º". They also had a book to read called "Readings".
When they left school at 5 o'clock in the afternoon, they almost never had homework to do, so they had time to help their families at home or play with their friends.

At that time, people didn't have mobile phones or game consoles for fun, so now we are going to talk about how teenagers spent their free time in town.

FREE TIME

In their free time they helped their families at home with household chores. On the one hand boys used to help their fathers to cut firewood, with the animals or also to work in the fields. While, on the other hand, girls helped their mothers by washing clothes, cleaning the house, taking care of their siblings… Some women also went to sewing classes in the afternoon, where they were taught to weave, embroider and much more.

Every day, after class they played with their friends around town until it was time to go home and when they were a certain age they could go dancing to the town dance hall on Sundays.

At home, people still didn't have televisions, but they had radios and listened to the news on it. People didn't travel a lot either, and if they did, they didn't travel very far away.

Like now, 70 years ago there were also celebrations and festivities. Saint Blas was celebrated on February 3. Saint Ramón was celebrated in summer and “Santo Cristo '' a bit later. All these dates were very happy moments in which everyone who lived in the town went out to celebrate, spent time with their family and friends and above all to had fun.
