Teenagers in Britain often do odd jobs to earn a
bit of spending money.
Car-washing and dog walking are common tasks that young people can do to earn a bit of cash. You’ll also often see the local paper-boy or girl, a young girl or boy delivering newspapers. From the age of sixteen, teenagers can work in shops and restaurants as waiters or waitresses and shop assistants. They often start on minimum wage which is only three pounds sixty-eight for under eighteens. When I was sixteen, I worked in a café at a golf club. I earned four pounds an hour. I also did a few chores such as the washing-up and ironing around the house to deserve my pocket money.
