His crew have his back when they learn that he is alone on Mars. They don't hesitates to try to save him. They are like a family.

Even if Mark Watney don't know what's going to happen to him, he didn't give up. He goes throught a lot of difficulties like when a strom caused a deprisurisation that destroyed his plantation of potato and also his habit.

Every character have a importance even if they are not the main character. They all manage to have their own identity, they made a real contribution to the story.

They have shown that politicians would rather not make a scandal or spend too much money than try to save someone.

Much of the film takes place on Mars so there is a recurring setting because of the red colour of the planet. However, the space or Mars settings are realistic, so it doesn't seem wrong. Moreover the landscapes are beautifull.

They are a lot of detail about the scientific projet or the way they do it, but they used easy way to make this understandable.
