Queen Elizabeth was born in London on 21st April 1926. Her full name was Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor. Queen Elizabeth's father was King George VI. In the winter of 1951-1952 King George was very ill*. Elizabeth and Philip were* on a trip* to Africa, Sri Lanka and Australia when her father died*. When a king dies, people say « The King is dead. Long Live the King/Queen. » Elizabeth became* Queen on 2 June 1953 : it is called the Coronation.
Elizabeth II died on September 8th 2022 and she was the longest reigning monarch in British history overtaking her great great grandmother 's reign, Queen Victoria.

The Queen lives and works* in Buckingham Palace in London . For the summer, she goes to Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The Queen spends* most days at her desk. She gets 300 or more letters every day. And she receives boxes of official papers to read and sign . The Queen has two birthdays. Her real birthday is on 21 April. Her official birthday as Queen is in June. To celebrate it, there is a parade on Horse Guards in London. It's called "Trooping the Colour".
