Leyla and Mecnun is a classic love story based on an Arabic legend.ıt is love story of two young people who are in love with each other.The story went to Iran at the end of the 10th century and was first written by the Persian poet Nizami.It entered Turkish literature with the most famous Mesnevi Fuzili's poem 'Leyla and Mecnun' in 1533.Lord Byron(English poet) called it 'Romeo and Juliet of the East)

Leyla,the daughter of a famous family living in Necid,fall in love with Kays.Her mother ,who hears their love that spreads everywhere in a short time,takes Leyla from school and forbids her to meet with Kays.Kays,who was destroyed by the pain of seperation ,began to be called 'Macnun 'which means 'crazy' in Arabic.Kays tells her father to want Leyla,but the offer is rejected.Beacuse the girl 's name is notorious and her honor is tarnished because of their love.Leyla gets married to someone else.Many people tell Majnun,who has gone mad,to forget about Leyla;but for him,The universe consists of Leyla and he never gives up on this love.His family takes him to the 'Kabe'(Kaaba-The religious place for Muslums) to pray Allah(Creator/God for Muslums) to get rid of this trouble.But on the contrary ,he prays for his trouble to increase ;he goes to the desert and begins to live with wild animals.

Leyla never loves his husband.After a while,The man dies.Meanwhile Majnun is in desert.His contact with the world is cut off.He does not see all the living beings ,even Leyla.One day,Leyla find her in desert,but Majnun does not recognize her and says 'Leyla is inside me,Who are you?'Leyla realizes the level Majnun has reached. (This is about reaching God with heart in Mesnevi).She returns home and Leyla dies.When Majnun learns that news,He goes to her grave,lies down and sobs as if his life is gone.He cries out and prays to The Creator ,asking him to take his life and reunite him with Leyla.His prayer is accepted.Mecnun,the lover of the lovers ,reunites with his Leyla with the thunderclaps.
