FIRST AID- PROCEDURES

1. safety Assess the situation. Make sure that you, the victim and any bystanders are safe. Is the environment safe for the person?

2. Check for a responseShake the victim gently by the shoulders and ask loudly: “Are you all right?"Is the person conscious or unconscious? If THERE ARE PEOPLE around you, ASK THEM TO STAY AND HELP

3. AIRWAYIf there is no response, position the victim on their back With your hand on the forehead and your fingertips under the point of the chin, gently tilt the victim’s head backwards, lifting the chin to open the airway

4. BREATHING Look, listen and feel for breathing for no more than 10 seconds

5. ALERT EMERGENCY SERVICES If THE PERSON DOESN'T RESPOND, ask a helper to call the emergency services or call them yourself.

6. Start chest compressions- Place the heel of one hand in the centre of the victim’s chest- Place the heel of your other hand on top of the first hand and interlock your fingers- Keep your elbows straight and position your shoulders directly above your hands-

Push straight down on the chest at least 5 centimeters. Use your entire body weight (not just your arms) when doing compressions.

7. COMBINE RESCUE BREATHING WITH CHEST COMPRESSIONSStart CPR with 30 chest compressions before giving two rescue breathsAfter the head-tilt, chin-lift maneuver, pinch the nostrils shut for mouth-to-mouth breathing and cover the person's mouth with yours,Give the first rescue breath — lasting one second — and watch to see if the chest rises.

8. Continue with chest compressions and rescue breaths in a ratio of 30:2Current recommendations suggest performing rescue breathing using a bag-mask device with a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter.

Do not interrupt resuscitation until: • A health professional tells you to stop OR • The victim is definitely waking up, moving, opening eyes, and breathing normallyREMEMBER!! - THE PROCEDURES ARE DIFFERENT IN CASE OF LITTLE CHILDREN OR WHEN SOMEBODY IS drowning.

If you are certain that the victim is breathing normally but still unresponsive.
