Economy of Connecticut The people of CT would go fishing, whaling, shipbuilding, and shipping. They would get money off of this. Other parts of CT also were based on timber products such as the fur trade, maple syrup, copper, livestock products, horses, rum, whiskey, and beer. This was how they got money. The farming was difficult because of the poor soil but they planted pumpkins, rye, squash, and beans. Since it had poor soil, it was rare for it to grow.

Religion of Connecticut The people of CT followed the Puritan way. The Puritans were really strict about their religion and you had no freedom outside of it. They were forced to not do things outside of their religion. They are very religious and read the bible often. They believed that they were doing god’s work. They would punish those who didn’t follow their ways.

Geography/Climate of Connecticut and Connecticut River Connecticut has a decent geography with many mountains, thick trees, but they had poor soil. This made it harder for the people of CT to have food because it was difficult to farm and was unsuited for crops. The climate of CT was cold. It had short summers leading to long cold winters, but less disease in the warmer colonies. The CT river was a good source for food because it had all sorts of fish you could eat. It also had some fresh water you could drink.

Founder of Connecticut Thomas Hooker was the founder of Connecticut. He founded Connecticut in Hartford with other colonists. He was born in England on July 7, 1586. He died in Hartford, Connecticut on July 7, 1647. He had a disagreement with the church leader in Massachusetts so he left and eventually found Connecticut. He also believed that the governor and other officials had too much power.
