The Ku Klux Klan, often referred to by its acronym KKK or also the Klan, is a white supremacist terrorist secret society in the United States founded on Christmas Eve 1865 or early in 1866.

The creation of the Ku Klux Klan is one of the consequences of the Civil War14,15. When this ends, begins the period known as the Reconstruction (1865-1877) where the stakes are the modalities of the political integration of the former Confederate States into the Union, the development of an economy of the South ravaged by the war, the management of the return of prisoners of war and that of refugees16 and the social and political integration of African Americans since the promulgation of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States on June 12, 1865 abolishing slavery, that of the Fourteenth Amendment in 1868 granting citizenship to anyone born or naturalized in the United States and prohibiting any restriction on this right, and that of the Fifteenth Amendment in 1870 guaranteeing the right to vote to all citizens of the country.

There were 3 klan distinc.

1.The first klan or “primitive klan”, which lasted from 1865 to 1870;

2.The second ku klux klan or modern klan, which lasted from 1915 to 1926;

3.The third klan, which has existed since 1950/1960 and continues to this day.
