A Journey Through the Giza Necropolis
You are an archeology student and you have been sent on an expedition to study the ancient Egyptian culture. Your first destination is the Giza pyramid complex, also known as the Giza Necropolis. There you will attempt to uncover the ancient mysteries of the great Egyptian pharaohs' tombs.
After a long and tiring journey you finally arrive at the great pyramids. You approach the entrance of the Pyramid of Khufu and begin your descent into the bowels of Khufu's tomb.
As you navigate the narrow corridors of the tomb you stumble upon a small chamber with hieroglyphic writing on the walls. You step closer to examine the text. Suddenly, an enormous boulder breaks off from the ceiling barricading the corridor from which you came. Now your only way to survive is to continue forward deeper into the pyramid and hope to find another way out.
You have entered a room with three doors, only one leads outside.
Three goddesses gave you hints, only one was telling the truth.
Sekhmet: "My door leads outside."Bastet: "Hathor's door doesn't."Hathor: "Lioness is lying."
Which door will you choose?
You chose... ...wisely! You solved the first riddle. Congratulations! But this was just the warmup. If you want to get out of here, you'll have to try harder than this.
In this room, there is only one door. However, it is guarded by a statue of Thoth, the god of wisdom. You can't enter before you tell him the password.Next to the statue, there is a strange small pyramid. Behind the pyramid, there are hieroglyphs on the wall. Maybe they hide some hint.
Correct! Sobek was the god of fertility, often represented as a human with a crocodile head.
A man borrows donkeys to use for transporting goods. To re-pay the loan the man must give the lender deben of copper every month per donkey. The man uses each donkey for days per month for transporting goods and earns deben of copper per donkey per day for this work. How many deben of copper does the man make per month?
However, Thoth isn't done with you. Now he wants an answer to this problem:
Impressive! You know basic high school math. You can give yourself a pat on the back. Let's see how you do on the next one...
You seem to be clever, but Thoth has one last task for you. It is the bread and butter of ancient Egyptian mathematicians and architects. You need to find the height of a pyramid whose dimensions are shown on the mural on the back wall.
Right again! Finally, Thoth is done testing your math skills. You may proceed through the door. But don't worry, it's not over yet. In fact, the real challenge is still in front of you.
Now you have entered a room dedicated to the dead. Like the dead, you must undergo a ceremony of weighing of the heart. You have to balance the last scale ... or your heart will be eaten!
Correct! Your heart was weighed against the feather of Maat, the goddess of truth, and you deserve to continue.
You're surely near the exit, you already see the sunlight. This must be the last obstacle. It looks like an infinite amount of stairs. Add them up to find a shortcut, or spend an eternity trying to climb them...
Congratulations!
You finally made it outside. Bruised and battered, but filled with newfound knowledge of ancient Egyptian culture. You can go home with pride. Was it worth it? Who knows... but if this traumatic experience has taught you anything, it's that you should seriously consider a career change. You're just a whip and a fedora away from your own movie franchise...
