SOCRATES

Sócrates was born in Alopece, Athens in 470 BC.C. He was considered one of the greatest was also plato's teacher who had aristotle as a disciple. Socrates as we know did not write anything, but thanks to plato's dialogues, the works of Aristophanes and the dialogues of Xenophon we know some details of his life. He died at the age of 70, was sentenced to death for despising the Athenian gods and for corrupting the young, taking them away from the principles of democracy, Then he took the hemlock (state poison) in front of all his students and died.

BIOGRAFY

He was the son of Sofronisco, a sculptor, and Fenareta who held the position of midwife. With the assets that his father left him when he died, he was able to live peacefully, without economic worries that would prevent him from dedicating himself to philosophizing. It is true that Socrates married, at a somewhat advanced age, Xantipa, with whom he had two daughters and a son. The basis of his teachings and what he instilled was the belief in an objective understanding of the concepts of justice, love and virtue and self-knowledge.

FAMILY

HIDTORICALCONTEXT

time of greatest splendor of the polis, at that time cultural and intellectual center where some of the ideas that are today the cornerstones of Western culture were defined. His thought was that he is persuaded that the greatest good of the human being does not consist in attending to the things that belong to him, to those that he possesses, but rather to what he himself is. Riches and honors are held and are something external to man, but the wisest and most perfect being is something that is, and is from within.

Socrates was a philosopher and writer. He is the founder of moral philosophy. Mayeutics was its greatest merit, it is a technique that consisted of interrogating a person to make him reach knowledge through his own conclusions and not through a learned knowledge. Socrates believed that knowledge can be constructed from opinions and reasoning. Using this method he realized that most people he asked in Athens had opinions without knowing, Socrates asked questions and did not know how to justify his opinions, thanks to this he earned the nickname of horsebade since his questions seemed annoying to the Athenians.

WHAT DID YOU DO?

A funny anecdote happened when a wealthy Athenian wanted to hire him to educate his son. Socrates asked him for 500 drachmas for the work, a total that the rich Greek found excessive. Upset, he told the thinker: "For that money I can buy a donkey." However, the philosopher did not cut a hair and replied: "You are right. I advise you to buy it and you will have two."

ANECDOTE

As we know Socrates did not write anything, but thanks to the following data we have more information about him, Plato's Dialogues as the most important material. The writings of Xenophon in which he speaks of Socrates finally, the mentions of Aristotle throughout all his works; he did not know him directly but traditionally his account is considered to be the most objective, being this disciple of Plato.

PLAYS

+Knowing yourself +Become aware of one's own ignorance +Philosophy is the search for truth as a measure of thethat man must do and as a norm for his conduct + The human being is just when he does his part +True wisdom is in acknowledging one's ignorance

IDEAS

Some of the phrases socrates said are: 1. An honest man is always a child 2. Knowledge begins in amazement 3. A life that has not been examined is not worth living 4. Speak up so I can meet you 5. The friend must be like money; before you need it, you need to know its value 6. The only true knowledge is knowing that you know nothing. 7. I am solely responsible for my decisions In my opinion these phrases reflect reality and this totally agrees with them.

FHRASES

I believe that Socrates does have an influence on reality today because his phrases have not remained in the past, but now they are still valid and you can apply them. Their methods are currently used for education. Socrates called for reflection at all times and that has left a good legacy. Another important thing that Socrates leaves us is his love for justice, being just above all.

PRESENT

For my Socrates has been the best thinker, his phrases and ideas seem to me to be absolutely right and will be worth many more years. He was also a very good teacher since he instructed Plato and Aristotle, who for me have been the 3 most important philosophers.
