My christmas traditions
How do I celebrate Christmas?
Christmas tree
On our Christmas tree there are baubles, angels, artificial flowers, snowflakes, shiny chains and lights and a star on the top of the tree.
Christmas Eve supper
Silesian Christmas poppy seed-based dessert
Fish (mostly carp, but also catfish and trout)
Borscht
Potatoes
Cabbage with peas and mushrooms
Fish soup
Sharing a wafer
Before supper me and my family get up and share the wafer and we make Christmas wishes.
Free seat at the Christmas Eve table
We leave that seat for unexpected visitor or lost wanderer.
Presents
Of course, It’s christmas so it’s presents. In my family the baby Jesus brings gifts. When I was smaller me and my sister waited for the first star and then when we went to the room all presents were already under christmas tree. We open our presents after supper.
Listen
Carols
During all the christmas eve we listen carols. My favourite carol is Silent Night.
Day after Christmas Eve, on December 25, together with my mum, we prepare a Silesian dinner and invite my grandfather, uncle, aunts and cousin to feel the magic of Christmas together.
