  • In Sweden we’re known for meatballs, herring. Both of these are typical foods that you can find on the table during holidays such as Christmas and easter.
  • Sweden is well known for what we call “Husmanskost”. Hussmanskost is a mix of typical Swedish traditional dishes, like meatballs with potatoes drowned in gravy, or fish with potato and remoulade sauce. Hussmankost is what you can find at IKEAs restaurant.
  • In Sweden we have something called pancake thursday. Not that many do it but it is kind of a forgotten tradition. It's when you eat split pea soup for dinner every Thursday and eat Swedish thin pancakes with lingonberry jam for dessert.
  • In Sweden we are known for our sausage called “falukorv”. You can eat “falukorv” for every meal. And it's made in a city called Falun and that's where the name comes from.

  • We eat some specific foods during Christmas holidays for example “Panettone” or “Pandoro” which are sweet. These are some of the foods which are known everywhere.
  • Symbolic meal of Italy is “Pasta al Pesto”, from Liguria, in which from ancient times spices and herbs are used to dress food; for this dish there is followed by a legend in which a friar of a convent picked up some herbs and added them to the few ingredients brought on offer by the faithful.
  • For breakfast italians usually drink coffee but in different ways, according to your tastes, for example Cappuccino and Espresso, while during breakfast we are used to eat sweet foods like bread with Nutella.
  • We don’t usually distinguish the foods that we eat during lunch or dinner. We can eat various types of pasta come from different cities of Italy as: “Carbonara”, “Amatriciana”, “Fettuccine al ragù”, “Pasta al pesto”. These listed above are the most popular but there are many others like “Lasagne”, “Ravioli”, “Gnocchi” etc…
  • Italy is famous for the excellent food it offers.
  • In addition there are other foods very very important that come from Italy such as Pizza originally from Naples. Desserts like “Gelato”, “Pastiera”, “Cannolo” are known in all world and they have been invented in Italy.

  • For lunch many French people eat sandwiches (the “Jambon beurre“ is very popular), and most of the students eat in the cafeteria.
  • In France there are many specialties depending on each region.
  • We really like the pastries like the “Paris-Brest” or “Chouquettes“ and cheese that we eat after the meal.
  • For breakfast French people eat pastries including "Pains au chocolat" and "Croissants" and some eat bread or baguette with jam or butter, others fruit with coffee or fruit juice (especially orange or apple juice).
  • For Christmas we have “Coq au vin” or “Foie gras” and oysters.
  • We are also well known for the " Crêpes "originating from Brittany which is a region of France.
  • And also for the wine, champagne and syrup.

  • Slovakia is well-known for potato dumplings with sheep cheese and bacon.
  • In Slovakia we use potatoes in loads of meals.
  • We have a special soup for Christmas called “kapustnica”, which is a type of cabbage soup.
  • In our country wafery pastries are very popular - the most popular is called “Horalky” or "Mila" and we have typical Slovak cheeses and special "trdelník" cake.
  • Lots of us like pizza, grilled cheese, and fried chop.
  • Common are spaghetti, a lot of types of soups or dumplings with different types of meat.
  • In summer an ice cream is popular.
  • Many Slovaks tend to take their lunch or snack to school or to work.
  • We usually start with breakfast at home - usually a “rožok” or a bread with butter and ham, cheese, jam or an egg plus some vegetables.
  • Then lunch at work or at school.
  • And finally the dinner in a restaurant or at home - many Slovaks cook their meals.

Paris-Brest is a traditional French ring-shaped dessert, made from batter sprinkled on top with almond slices, which is filled with mousseline pralinée cream after baking.

This is how our lunch at school can look like. We eat a soup and a main dish. We also get fruit or something to drink.You can see a vegetable stew, meat risotto and acidophilous milk.

School lunch

A wafer is a crisp, often sweet, very thin, flat, light and dry cookie. Wafers can be made into cookies with cream flavoring sandwiched between them. "Horalky" or "Mila" wafers are very popular snack in Slovakia.

Trdelník is a type of a spit cake. The production of trdelník has a long tradition in the Slovak town of Skalica. The word trdelník is of Czech-Slovak origin; the root of this word, trdlo, is the name of the wooden tool the cake ingredients are wrapped around during cooking (which gives it its traditional hollow shape).

Kapustnica is a cabbage soup with sausages and mushrooms. You can eat it with a bread as well. Slovaks use to eat kapustnica for Christmas.

Korbáčik, parenica or oštiepok – the three cheeses that are still being made the traditional way at Slovak salashes and small mountain farms. Depending on the place and time of year, they can be more or less salty, but that’s exactly how most Slovaks like their cheese.

Potato dumplings with sheep cheese and bacon is considered the national dish of Slovakia. Potato 'dumplings' are covered with sheep cheese, similar to soft feta, and topped with a good dose of bacon and bacon drippings.
