Ensamble Transatlántico de Folk Chileno

Created in Chile in 2012 by Ernesto Calderón and Gianela Machuca, The Transatlantic Chilean Folk Ensemble plays a range of innovative original compositions based on traditional Chilean Folk music. Described by Rob Adams of Herald Scotland as 'keeping traditional rhythms and instrumentation sounding fresh,' the Ensemble has played across Europe and Chile, proving that modern Chilean folk music deserves a place no less recognised than other better known South American music styles.Dynamic and full of life, the Ensemble takes you on a tour of the different Chilean styles, ranging from the Cueca dance form to the largely unrecognised music of Chile's Afro descendants, all the while mixing traditional with modern.

Ensamble Transatlántico de Folk Chileno

The band has travelled to different countries like Sweden, Denmark, India, Germany, China, Japan, Brasil etc. To play and teach traditional music from Chile and south américa.

Ensamble Transatlántico de Folk Chileno

The band has a holistic vision of music as a way of changing lives. Because of that, it has prepared educative material to teach Chilean music with different methodologies. The band has also played with children of different schools in programs sponsored by the Chilean Government.

Orquesta Folk

Folk Orchestra of Valparaíso is an instance aimed at young schoolchildren of Valparaíso, especially those with limited resources. It´s a free opportunity for formal learning of the musical theory, the performance of various instruments, and access to a repertoire of musical works with Chilean folk roots, in a participatory environment conducive to learning.

According to the "National Policy of the Field of Music 2017-2022" (Counsil of Culture Chile), the Folklore genre has a lower insertion in industrial circuits and in school education, since the subject of music is not compulsory in secondary education, and there is a lack of equipment and a shortage of specialized teachers.

ChilEtno

Ethno Chile is a musical encounter that allowes the exchange of traditional and root repertoire. Musicians from different areas of Chile and abroad came and work with a methodology similar to that used in the “Ethno” camps, created in 1990, and which today enjoy great popularity among folk music circles. Its approach is based on the oral transmission of the repertoire, with an open and participatory methodology, where the musicians can be actively involved in the arrangement process.

The camp and workshops is held in different cities of Chile. Presentations are usually in concert stages, local fairs, also in places where it has a significant impact on the local culture of the hosting city like jails or low-income neighborhoods.

2015 - Rancagua city / 2016 - Rancagua / 2017 - Picarquín / 2018 - Picarquín / 2019 - Mantagua / 2020 - Con con / 2021 - Valparaíso

In the year 2021, with COVID-19 at its peak, we made a hybrid model of the camp, named "OnLive Ethno Chile". Which consisted of online workshops for people from all over the world and ended with a concert played by those who were locals from Valparaíso.
