The students of 11th Kindergarten of Agios Dimitrios,Attica, present the trees of their school yard.

Pine tree- Πεύκο

The pines are evergreen, resinous coniferous trees The bark is thick and grooved, the leaves are needle-shaped All the stem parts of the tree producing resin and essential oils. The pine flowers are known as pine cones. Pine trees are precursor species in forest ecosystems and settle in extreme environments and form plant communities that shape the environment for future species. E.g. in the region of Attica the pine forests form the appropriate environment for the natural evolution of the ecosystem which is theoretically dominated by oak.

Olive tree- Ελιά

The olive tree has been known since ancient times, and probably originates from the area of the eastern Mediterranean. According to the ancient Greek tradition, the homeland of the olive tree is Athens and the first olive tree was planted by Athena on the Acropolis.

Eucalyptus -Ευκάλυπτος

The leaves of Eucalyptus are long, leathery and hang from the tree. The fruit is a capsule surrounded by a sheath and contains many small spores while the flowers when opened join together to form a small container. The leaves of many species contain an oil also known as eucalyptus oil which is used in medicine in various nasal sprays. From the trunk of some other species is obtained the resin, useful in tanning and pharmaceuticals. They are the tallest flowering plants. It is planted in gardens since in addition to the shade and coolness it provides, it also has the ability to remove mosquitoes.

Ash tree-Μελία

Ash is a tree that during Spring and Summer blooms and bears fruit with fruits that are kept almost all winter, in a cold environment and are widely used by professionals of the species in eccentric decorative proposals. . The fruits of the tree are poisonous to humans, as they contain neurotoxins that have many and permanent side effects in the human body. But apart from its decorative use, the honey tree is known for the high quality wood it produces. It also has a fire retardant action and can serve as a raw material in the construction of fire zones in forests.
