Morphine Discovery

Our Scientist

One of the most outstanding pharmacists who significantly influenced the transformation of pharmaceutical chemistry from a state of alchemistry to an acknowledged branch of science at the end of the 18th century.

Born: 19 June 1783Died: 20 February 1841 (aged 57)Nationality: GermanKnown for: Discovering morphineFields: Pharmacology, Alkaloid chemistry

Friedrich Sertürner

People used the poppy plant as an analgesic drug in folk medicine but they were not able to take it in exact doses so Freidrich thought of extracting its active constituent to ease its intake.

How was Morphine discovered?

Produce the opium drug in the form of resonous gum.

Awards

  • Montyon prize from the Institute of France
  • Honorary doctorate in 1817 from Jena University
  • Got the title ‘Benefactor of Humanity’ in 1831

In order to get the opportunity to learn and discover different sciences.

Affordable education system

Do something today that your future self will thank you for!

We need the new generation of pharmacists to stand in the way of new viruses and find the treatment to keep the human race alive.
