Polish education system

Pre-school (przedszkole)

In Poland pre-school education is offered to children between 3 and 6 years old. Formal school education before age 7 is not compulsory, but currently 97 percent of the nation's children attend. Preschool education is designed to aid child development, promote personal independence, and instill a sense of confidence in one's self and abilities.

The first step towards compulsory education

Compulsory education in Poland starts at the age of six from the mandatory „0” reception class. The reception class is a part of kindegarten/pre-school rather than school. It helps children make a fluid transition from preschool to primary school.

There are 8 years of education in primary school in Poland with a division into: Grades 1 – 3 Grades 4 – 8

The primary school ends with end-of-school exams the results of which are taken into account when applying to a secondary education school.

Higher studies

The higher education institutions in Poland are divided into two main groups: state (public) and private (non-public) institutions. These institutions are further divided into two main categories: academic and vocational institutions.

• 1 - unsatisfactory
