Warning to Rich Oppressors Part 1

Verse: 1-4

noemie

Rich people with their wealth

  • These rich people didn’t even pay their workers who mowed their fields and who cried out against them. This is Injustice!
  • But the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.
  • They are now condemned by the Lord for their evil deeds and also all their goods and wealth are corroded.
  • Their wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten their clothes. Their gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against them and eat their flesh like fire.

"God asks us to behave and give the shares that we must give to others. Here in this part, is formed a parallel between man’s greed and hunger for money. So as it is written several times in the bible; we must share in order to not be greedy."

Warning to Rich Oppressors Part 2

Verse: 5-8

chrishy

"In this part, we learned that the rich oppressors in this life will be judged next."

Conclusion:

  • James declares the rich have lived in luxury or pleasure on the earth, that they have been doing only what they wanted to do.
  • He goes on to say that the rich have killed the just or innocent who were not opposing them.

"You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you."

rich people with their wealth

  • Many Christians were poor and oppressed, some of them no doubt farmers who suffered because of the rich landowners.
  • James encourages them to wait patiently for the Lord’s return, just as the farmer waits patiently for the rain that will bring his crops to final harvest.
  • God is using these trials to teach them patience, so they must not fight against his purposes by grumbling.

Patience in suffering

part 1

Do not complain about each other or you will be judged.Part 2

Verse: 9-12

kenza

"because jesus’ coming is near, we should also endure"

  • Endure= suffer patiently
  • James says: "we consider those blessed who remained faithful"

"The judge is standing at the door"

  • He will hold these people accountable for their sins, and he will also judge us if we respond in the wrong way.
  • It should be an encouragement to us that the Judge is coming soon, but this is only true if we are doing what is right

"The one who endures to the end, will be saved" Matthew 24:13

The opposite of enduring is giving up. we already learned about the test of trials in chapter 1. The concept here is similar. The good news for us is that no matter what difficulty we are in the middle of, God loves us. He is "compassionate & merciful" and has good plans for us.

meaning:

  • That means we need to be careful before we make promises!
  • Think before you speak and remember to consider God’s will before making a promise as we learned in James 4:5 {Vous devriez dire, au contraire: "Si Dieu le veut, nous vivrons et nous ferons ceci ou cela."}
  • Our "Yes" should be "Yes" and our "No" should be "No". That means we don’t need to have different levels of promises.
  • Anytime we say we will do something, we should do it even if it hurts and even if no one is forcing us to keep it.
  • If you make an agreement but later find out it is unfavorable to you, do it anyway. You gave your word.

Do not swear: Let your "Yes" be "Yes" and your "No" be "No"

verse 12

Conclusion:

"We should know that God is always listening and will hold us accountable for every word we say"

The Prayer of FaithPart 1

Verse: 13-16

joshua. m

  • Any christian who is suffering or is in trouble should naturally be inclined to pray.
  • Trials will come. Suffering will come.
  • When it comes, it provides an opportunity to move closer to God, asking for help and strenght to remain faithful in the suffering.
  • James returns to the subject of suffering.
  • James tells us that prayer is the answer for suffering.
  • He encourages his readers to respond to all of the circumstance of their lives with prayers.
  • That is what people who trust God do.
  • This is a consistent theme of James’ letter; a person’s actions prove what they really believe.

prayers

"Prayer should become the natural response to any circumstance or state of mind for people living in a close trust relationship with our Father."

conclusion:

The Prayer of FaithPart 2

Verse: 17-20

sophie

  • They should always be looking for opportunities to bring people to God, so that those people can have their sins forgiven.
  • Saving a soul from death. This may seem like a complex task but it is quite simple. This can be done in several ways, through small actions on a daily basis.
  • We can share a verse, help in any way possible or simply by a hug.
  • Elijah illustrates how a man with a nature like ours could have the powerful prayer life of “a righteous person".
  • The example of Elijah is an assurance that God answers the prayers of his people.
  • Christians should be concerned for all people, not just for those who meet regularly in the church.

Continue to have faith & help others to come back to jesus

conclusion:

"Continue to have faith and remember whoever turns a sinner to good path, will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins."
