The "Papirko" project

1) We can use paper for multiple purposes. 2) We can print on both sides of the paper. 3) We can write on both sides of the paper. 4) We can use bags made of cloth instead of paper bags. 5) Paper should be recycled and not thrown away.

How can we reduce paper waste?

If every person on this planet recycled paper, we would reduce forest logging and save trees that give us oxygen.

The "papirko" project

A display how we collected old paper throughout the years with the „Papirko“ project:

Twice a year, our school organizes „Papirko“, an action that collects old and used paper. Scrap paper, after the process of recycling, becomes new usable paper that is mainly used for newspaper. By doing so, we save our forests and energy, lower the air pollution, water pollution, as well as freeing up the landfill space. This year we collected 13 520 kg of scrap paper resulting in saving around 230 trees.

A product similar to paper was produced by Sumerians from a plant called Papyrus in 5000 BC. After that, paper was made from linen, hemp, straw, cotton and others. In the 19th century the production of paper from wood began. In the 20th century, separation of paper was introduced in order to prevent forest destruction. Quarter of the municipal waste is scrap paper, and with its correct collection we minimize the amount of waste by 25 percent. Wood is being processed several times in order to have paper that we all use today. Paper can be recycled even at your own home and used again.
