This was the first part of the experiment, and what is happening here is that we poured hot water in one side (red) and cold water in the other side (blue). We have put vaseline over the barrier that is separating the two colors, also on the tubes that are on either side of the glass so that it would be sealed nicely.
In this photo, this is when we removed the barrier between the two colors. The water had just started to mix together. You can see that the cold water (blue) is going more towards the bottom, and that is because cold water is more dense than hot water. While the hot water (red) is going overtop of the cold water, because it is not as dense.
