MY DOCUMENTS
- John Lennon write the song Imagine in 1971. When he wrote this song he writes his idealistic and almost utopian thoughts and transcribes the thought of many idealistic people.
- The tribute of Banksy for George Floyd has been interpreted with two different ways which has led to many debates about it, because of the united states flag burning in the background that denounced police crimes in the United States.
- Billie Holiday made an autobiographic book called Lady Sings the Blues in 1956, to let the world know about her life and her problems regarding her origins and what she went through during this time of extreme racism.
- 12 angry men has been released during the 50's, and at this time people's mind differed a lot because of the lack of knowledge about other ethnicity..In this movie the guilty is hyspanic, and because of that, jurors judge him directly without even try to debate about his facts and proofs.
- Alexa Dark published in the newspaper L'Officiel, The Controversial Moments in Fashion History it's all about the fashion during the post World War II, and others times like the Swinging Sixties who signs the beginning of the liberation of people's bodies, especially girls with mini skirt..
Art and debating are, by definition it's the provocation of exchanges between several people according to the subject approached whether it is in a painting, a music, a sculpture which refers to a subject of our society which can cause controversy
Introduction
In a first part, with the BOOK from Billie holliday lady sings the blues And with the controversial moments in fashion history by ALEXA DARK, we wil see how the mentality has evolved since the 1940s. In a second part, we will deal with the power of imagination And creation to change reality AND PEOPLE's mind with the film 12 angry men by sydney lumet, imagine by john lennon and the tribute for george Floydby Banksy.
And with that,
These 4 documents will help us to answer the question : How does artists can change people's mind with their ideas and causes debates ?
The lack of freedom in the past deals with the problem in our society
- satire of society, people at this time were really close-minded
- the transcription of past events in our society in a newspaper, really free to speak about multiple choices.
- shows a typical style for the time, people were probably against this style.
- right to be different ? Casual clothes for our time.
- no freedom/freedom
CONTROVERSIAL MOMENTS IN FASHION HISTORY :
- Autobiographic
- book talk about his dad and how she was affected by that
- talks about lynching and all the atrocities the black communities have lived in the past
- a way of expressing herself thanks to the music in general, that hurt her, vomiting, illness...
- she tries to make things happen thanks to her experience
- Freedom to express herself
My plan
I- The evolution of people's minds since the 40's and its changes
LADY SING THE BLUES :
The society where we lived right now has evolved in a better way for that : in the past will see that people's were really close-minded so there were a big satire in society...The body of women was taboo and not really exposed like now... but with the WW2 and all that followed, people's started to take a breath...Althougt, we seen in this newspaper that Alexa Dark used picture to shows a typical style for the time, now it is casual and everyone could were it... It's was the beginning of the right to be different and not in the same style as everyone... There's a big difference between our freedom and the past freedom, which was light for its time...In lady sings the blues we meet the true personality of Billie Holiday, in this book she talks about her dad and how she was affected by that...And with this book, she tries to make things happen thanks to her experience and what she been through. She feels free to express herself...
Sous-titre
Artists express their opinions by creating characters that represents the flaws of the society the live in : for example, in 12 angry men, juror 10 represents clearly prejudice and more precisely Hispanophobia : he is always expressing his racists opinions about the young boy, saying that he is guilty because all of them (talking about Hispanic ppl) are violent and that they are liars. But, the other characters can also be a representation of the Hispanophobia of the 50's, when there was a paranoia about Hispanic people, because some the others are acting as if the life of the boy isn't relevant, saying stereotypes about his community, except juror 8 who stand up against their ignorance. In Pride and Prejudice, the characters of Mrs Bennet just wants to find a husband for her daughters, not caring about love. It shows how, in the 19th century, arranged marriages were the only option for many young girls.Artists also express their opinions by just showing us the facts about the flaws of society. For example, in United States of Attica, thé dates are just written on the map and in Napalm Girl, Banksy clearly show us the girl in pain. It seems simple but it's really informative and the shock it creates is a great way to push people into learning more and educate themselves[15:15]Partie 2 : "Consequences of their art"[15:15]

- makes many debates
- an infringement of American laws (the candle is burning the american's flag
- a representation and a support for the Black Lives Matters that help protest march in every country.
- an act of peace and rebellion ?
- an utopic and idealist vision of the world that most of us wants to live in.
- too much irrealistic because it's like a dream we've never get in
- in the 70's > during an economic and social crisis in england
- lightness during the troubles ?
- during the Vietnam war, symbol of peace ?
IMAGINE:
Imagination and debates can help people's to change their minds, with or without concrete ideas, freedom to think and do what we want, thanks to the debates and people's different opinions.
- against people's opinion at this time ?
- at the beginning none of the jurors wants to debates and find it ridiculous
- lightness about death sentence ?
- a hope thanks to juror 8 who convinces them all
12 ANGRY MEN:
My plan
II- we will deal with the power of imagination and creation to change reality and people's mind
THE TRIBUTE FROM BANKSY:
Conclusion
Conclusion
Art and Debating can influence many people's mind thanks to the authors, painters, writters, throughout the decades..They denounce facts like we seen in all the documents. If Artists denonciate something and people start to debate about it, then they will be more likely to understand why it needs to be denonciated...It also helps many people to take a breath, and found a certain lightness to escape the reality, or to simply debate with others to find idealist ideas and thoughts.
