Salt&pepper challenge
How to separate a salt&pepper mixture
Salt & pepper mixed!!!!
Mr Noluck mistake
01
+ info
Mr Noluck has spilled the content of his salt and pepper shakers on the table!! The salt and pepper are now mixed!. There is our experimental protocol to get back the salt and the pepper. There is 10 g of salt and 3.82 g of pepper. (72.4 % salt; 27.6 % of pepper)
third try
04
+ info
Salt can be disolved in water, but no pepper. We add water in 6 g of mixture
Magnetism
our first try
02
+ info
Our first idea was trying with a magnet. Nothing happens...
In the filter, we have pepper
filtering the mixture
05
+ info
Once filtered the mixture, we have pepper
Electricity
second try
03
+ info
Thanks to our Turkish colleagues, we now that it's possible to separate it with electricity. But it could be a hard work....
Pepper is ready
Drying pepper
06
+ info
We dried the pepper and weigh it. We've got a 8.4 % of pepper. Quite far from the initial 27.6%

CRISTALIZING SALT
+ info
In this moment, salt is cristalizing
Conclusions
Salt and pepper are separated by cristalization. We've learnt several things:
- We can separate it but not completely: we have invented salt flavoured with pepper.
- Salt cristalize in nice cubes
- Pepper have some electrical properties
Salt and pepper are a heterogeneous mixture
