The ruins of the Castle of Rupit
Did you know that...
The origin of this town can be traced back to year 1000, when Rupit Castle was built as a replacement for Fàbregues Castle. The houses in the town were progressively built around the Castle.

Did you know that...
The oldest piece of news of the existence of Santa Magdalena dates back to 1660. Its interior is reminiscent of Romanesque chapels despite it being built in the 18th century.
You can go walking, along a path that leaves the street of the Church, just before entering the Plaza Mayor.

Right opposite the entrance of the old graveyard there are some tracks that are believed to belong to a dinosaur. Do you see them? Take a photo!
Today, we know that these are fossil footprints of the first inhabitant of Rupit i Pruit. It is an invertebrate that goes by the name of Asterosoma and that lived about 40 million years ago in Fossar Street.
Did you know that...
In this street there used to be the old graveyard, after which the street was named. Since November 1st 1952, the graveyard is in the outskirts of the town.

Did you know that...
A good example of the importance of Rupit during the 16th and 17th centuries is the fact that it had a notary’s office. A place of legal advice for the villagers. La regentó durante casi 500 años la familia Soler y la primera noticia que encontramos data del año 1308. During almost 500 years it was run by the Soler family, with the first attested record dating back to 1308. We can see the main door with a lintel, crowned with a baroque coat of arms with a sun –the symbol of the Soler household– and the date, 1608.

The patron saint of Rupit’s parish church is Saint Michael the Archangel and for this reason the town’s Festival is on Saint Michael’s day, on September 29th.

In former days the apothecary was the pharmacist. The job of the apothecary consisted in regulating the preparation and sale of drugs, syrups, medicinal waters, ointments, cataplasms, herbs, etc.

...The Smithy dates back to 1711, when a secondborn son of the Rovira farmhouse at Pruit settled as a blacksmith, a family business that continued until 1973.
Did you know that...
There were blacksmiths specialised in different tools? Blacksmiths specialized in making horseshoes were known as farriers; to horseshoe, one had to first pull out the old horseshoe, file the hooves of the horse and then forge the new horseshoe in the exact size and make the nails to hold it. There were also artistic blacksmiths who made doors, fences, iron balconies, etc.

Did you know that...
This bridge was built in 1945 by the craftsmen from Rupit Francesc and Pere Rovira (blacksmiths), Salvi Vila (bricklayer) and Joaquim Marsal (cartwright) with the aim of crossing the deep stream that meanders around Rupit. Over the years, the bridge has become a great attraction of the town.
