Fantastic! You're the best comrade.

Hi Thomas!, What are we going to do today?

You always with concerns, but...,No problem, I'll accompany you.

DISSECTING LUNGS

BIOLOGY

mmm ... I'm curious to know what the internal structure of a lung looks like.

Let's go to the lab!

Safety Guidelines

Biology Lab

You can't enter until you read the safety guidelines

Safety Guidelines: Students must treat each other with respect, and their the dissected specimen as well.· Each student must wear safety glasses and a pair of nitrile gloves.· Become aware of the dissecting tools you will be using. Do not have a dissecting tool in your hand unless you are using the tool.· Follow instructions and do not experiment with the lungs on your own without approval.· Do not breathe directly into the lungs.· Please ask the teacher if you have any questions or request.· Please notify the teacher immediately if you have any cuts or scratches.· Wash your hands after the practical is completed. Use soap and water and clean your material.· At the end of the practical, disinfect the work area with alcohol.

Instructions

How to play? 1. You must go in order for each workstation. 2. Read the instructions carefully. 3. Take evidence of the procedures as they are inputs for your report. 4. Register the keys you find. These will serve you for the final submission of your report. Challenge 1: With the help of the magnifying glass, find the microscope that will help you to know essential specifications for your laboratory practice.

Before you start

CRITERION B: inquiring and designing i.Describe a problem or question to be tested by a scientific investigation ii.Outline a testable hypothesis and explain it using scientific reasoning CRITERION C: processing and evaluating i. present collected and transformed data ii. interpret data and describe results using scientific reasoning

The purpose of this activity is: · to find out about the structure of the lungs · to find out how our lungs move as we breathe · to relate the structure of the lungs to how they work when we breathe

Research question: According to the learning objectives, propose your research question for the lab. Hypothesis: Write down your hypothesis following the structure if, then, because. (This is a possible answer to your research question )

Instructions

Before doing the dissection, we are going to do a brief review of the anatomical structure of the lung through an exercise. You must Drag and drop each word to where it belongs.

Without using any dissecting tools, examine the lungs and answer the following Write down the general shape, size, color and texture of the lungs. Draw them or take a picture. 1st lung 2nd lung Size Color: Texture: Image:

  • Do your best to examine trachea and right and left primary bronchi. Write down how the trachea looks and feels. Can you see where the right primary bronchus and left primary bronchus enter the lungs? Look for and feel the thin pleural membrane that covers and protects the lung. Describe below.

Press the button and make your prediction. then rip the clock and you will find the object you must look for, and it will give you the next step to the following activities.

Write down your group’s prediction of whether a small piece of the lung will float or sink when placed in water. Include the reasoning for your prediction

The main function of the lungs results from the interaction of air within the alveoli and blood trougth the capillaries, which is to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide.

True

Instructions

  • To read the question, hover your mouse pointer over the gray balloon.
  • Drag the glasses to the student with the correct answer.

Inside the lungs, the bronchi branch into smaller tubes called bronchioles, which end in tiny air pockets called alveoli. Each lung houses between 300 and 400 million of alveoli.

Instructions

Are the lungs hollow bags or spongy? What does the lung tissue look like when you cut into it? What happens when you put this tissue into water?

What structure makes the windpipe stay open, but able to bend?

In a living animal, what body movements draw air into the lungs?

In a living animal, what body movements force air from the lungs?

Cut a piece of lung tissue and observe the cut surface and how the tissue behaves when you drop it into water. Write down your observations and how they compared to your earlier prediction. Draw or take a picture.

Instructions: 1. Roll the colored dice 2. Take the dart of the same color that came out and drag it to the balloon. 3. Read the instructions and do the activity 4. Register the results in the report
